It’s looking good!! 🥕
I’m sorry if this post is a bit all over the place—I’m shaking with excitement and still processing that this is really happening!!
First, I just want to thank every single one of you who’s shown support and concern for Carrot. It’s truly given me the strength to keep fighting for him, and I’m so grateful. To everyone who donated, no matter the amount, I can’t thank you enough. You are the reason Carrot is getting this chance at a healthy, happy life. We’ve somehow reached 1/4 of the goal in less than 24 hours. Being on this side of things and witnessing so much generosity and compassion is so moving—it’s amazing to see so many selfless, caring people come together for him.
Now, for the big update: I just got back from the humane society after a lot of pleading, and while they won’t do a direct transfer to Forgotten Ones, they will allow me to adopt him!!!
Nothing can be finalized today since it’s Sunday, but I’m waiting to hear from the foster department supervisor tomorrow to arrange the adoption. I’m just praying they follow through, as his euthanasia was initially set for tomorrow.
Once I can pick him up, I’ll be driving him down to Richmond Hill to start his recovery journey with Forgotten Ones 🥹
After he’s stable, Forgotten Ones will manage his adoption process, but I’m also happy to help find him an amazing forever home. If anyone in the Ottawa or Toronto area is interested in adopting Carrot, please reach out!
I’ll continue to keep everyone updated as I go through the adoption process. Thank you all again for everything—you’ve made this possible. 🥕💚

This is amazing news! One note: Since you'll take on official ownership, you'd get his medical records. Make sure you get all of it, as they may not have yet shared all of the info. We'll contact Forgotten Ones for a donation. If Carrot does well and is a match with our family, we might even end up adopting... But first let's focus on getting him well!

While we're waiting on an update from OP and Carrot today... please consider checking out Carrot's fundraiser located on OP's user page in the bio. The fundraiser is 92% of the way to the goal! So close. Carrot will need all the help he can get on the next leg of his journey. 🫶🫶🫶 Thanks everyone. Yall are the real MVP's time and time again.

Hallelujah! I’m so happy for you and Carrot! Will Forgotten Ones keep you updated on how he does? My fingers are crossed that the hematuria turns out to be a nothing burger. I also hope they discount his adoption, considering they don’t have to pay the cost of euthanizing him. Thank you so much for the update!

Thanks for advocating so hard when you knew something wasn’t morally correct. Coming from a cat foster mom and rvt we need more people using their voice for the voiceless.

I've made a donation to your GoFundMe, thank you so much for all you're doing for Carrot. He's an exceptionally lucky boy to have you standing up for him. If I was local I would 100% adopt him to save his little life, I really hope Forgotten Ones can set him up for the life he deserves.
Thank you for all you've done for this beautiful animal, keep us updated!

This is amazing news! I’ve been following his story but from a distance because it was just the 4 year anniversary since I had to put my 17 year-old cat Carrot down. I hope this Carrot gets to live as long as my precious Carrot. If he was in Alberta he would have a safe home with me ❤️

I’m interested in adopting but I’m in another country! He’s so gorgeous! Please be at their door first thing to get him out! Please make sure they don’t put him to sleep! They might be sneaky and do it first thing. I’m hoping so much to see an update of him tomorrow being in your home! ♥️

Thank you SFM for not giving up! Your courage is amazing. I am so thankful to the rescue for intervening. Feeling so gracious tonight, as I read the original post first and had a broken heart. I wish I could help financially, but please know I am a foster and haven't fostered for a few months and will push harder to get a new one/ones. Thank you again.

How's it going, u/MapleKitty777 ? Hoping the silence means you've got him and are now driving multiple hours each way to get him where he's going!

Thank you, I missed it because I was expecting the update to come from TS. This probably well meant action puts the rescue operation at risk. I hope that nobody else reaches out, and that TS and Carrot are ok.

Thank God he didn't received the PETA treatment, that shelter should be investigated bc feels like a MO

Does anyone with foster experience know why the humane society is so resistant to transfering him directly? It just seems so odd to me.
2
u/Creepreefshark Nov 05 '24
Thank you for the update!!! I posted the Gofundme to my Furaffinity journal! I have a small following but I hope other furs see it and donate/spread the word! Slightly unrelated: Furry conventions raise money for animal rescues all the time, too. I'm so happy that you get to adopt Carrot! You can be his bunny 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺!!1!!!!!!

You should keep him. After fighting so hard for him, he should stay with you. You clearly love him very much and will give him the home he deserves. Also, since you've been with him through all of this, you know all his medical history. Who better to care for him than you?
Congrats on the good news, and best of luck!

Please make sure you call first thing in the morning to confirm the weekend crew passed along the message of the change of plans. I don’t have much faith in the Humane Society. My biggest fear is that you’ll arrive to pick him up a minute too late.

Thank you for the update!! I knew everything would work out and I'm so happy for you and Carrot. Just need to get him safely pulled from the shelter now. Carrot deserves a chance to live his life.
And... THANK YOU TO FORGOTTEN ONES!!
Euthanasia of a beautiful, loving 3-year-old cat without any additional diagnostics and only assumptions is unacceptable at best.
Might I add... in most cases, cystitis in cats is a result of an abnormal response by the cat's body to some external problem. FLUTD is primarily caused by STRESS. Although, uroliths or stones is another cause, as well as an obstruction (which you noticed no symptoms of while fostering him.) Still, you would not euthanize based on hematuria or blood in urine alone, ever. This is a matter of quality of life (QOL). "It is only necessary to euthanize affected cats if their quality of life is suffering." He is not suffering and treatment could be as simple as antibiotics and/or a urinary diet. Although it could be as complex as surgery, that seems doubtful.
You were 100% on point with how you handled this and you were correct to be very upset by it. I'm so glad you fought back and advocated for Carrot and didn't listen to the bs of them telling you that "you can't" adopt him due to being a foster parent. Along with them telling you that KILLING HIM was in his best interest... SMH.
You're a good person and I truly appreciate you fighting the good fight for Carrot, a voiceless innocent who would be dead if not for you. You're an amazing foster mom and I hope you'll continue your good work with a more reputable organization with better policies. These babies need you. You never know when the next Carrot will crawl into your lap. 🫶
