Proud Grifter Thanks, Greta. You really made a stand here.

at least she freed Palestine

Her advocacy will successfully lead to a one-state solution

Freed them from the burden of living, I suppose. I was NOT happy with Biden/Harris handling of the war, but c’mon! I am in mourning now for Palestinians. They’re doomed

I’ve been mourning for Palestinians since Hamas took over Gaza Strip in 2006.

From this mortal coil…

Last I heard from her, she was protesting a potential wind farm in Norway cause some native Sami people were NIMBY's against it. The less I hear from her, the better.

some native Sami people were NIMBY's

I feel like there has to be a better way to talk about this.

u/Daddy_Macron Nov 15 '24

Native groups can be NIMBY's too. There were Sami who wanted the wind projects to go through since it meant jobs and investment in their community. Not everyone wants to be a reindeer herder in the 21st Century, especially not young people. Technicians that maintain the wind turbines and electricity infrastructure are well-paid positions. But they didn't get any attention cause Greta plopped herself in the middle of the situation and soaked up everything.

Greta being a white savior (or in this case Swedish savior)? Surprise.

There were Sami who wanted the wind projects to go through since it meant jobs and investment in their community.

And I think that's a more helpful way to talk about it.

u/TerranUnity Nov 15 '24

Okay then, what is the better way?

3

u/Solareclipsed Nov 15 '24

That it should maybe be a discussion for the people who live there and would benefit or hurt from it, and not a discussion for climate activists who know nothing about the situation?

To say what you mean instead of just throwing a label around. Whether you agree with them or not, they had their reasons to be uncomfortable with it. They reached an agreement and were compensated for it.

All NIMBYs have their reasons, doesn’t mean they aren’t NIMBYs

And I think that clean energy is good and also that it was fair to compensate them.

Except everyone thinks that, it was the not wanting it built part

Don't fetishize native people. They are as good or bad as anyone else

Whoa. Ok. Not what I was going for.

I don't think this is why.

Why?

I don't think it's helpful to dismiss people's concerns this way. I think the term NIMBY is becoming overused, and it would be helpful for us to move toward actually acknowledging problems while talking up the benefits rather than just assuming people who disagree are backwards and stupid.

18

u/aelfwine_widlast Get Mad AND Get Even. Nov 15 '24

If concerns are stupid, they should be called out. The Sami were, indeed, engaging in NIMBYism.

u/spadelover Nov 16 '24

I mean it really depends on just how the wind farm would've affected them. If the wind farms were going to disturb wildlife and migration patterns, and the few maintenance jobs for the farms weren't going to the locals then I get the objections.

Maybe it’s time we stop listening to foreign children with no clue about American politics.

8

u/resorcinarene Nov 15 '24

how about we stop listening to children in general or Peter Pan adults

Trump will fuck America at the behest of the oil cartels.

I like Greta because her teenage 15mins are up.

She's just another angsty 20 something now.

u/dcblunted Nov 15 '24

Greta didn’t have anything to do with this. She’s firm on her positions and has protested all types of national leaders.

Check out Climate Action Now and similar orgs - they were all over the Gaza issue. That to me is far more noteworthy.

As the votes continue to be counted, this election was fairly close. Groups like above who protested the Admin AGAINST THEIR OWN STATED MISSION are to blame. What these orgs fail to understand is how unpopular their position was. Harris was trying to win an election- if there was any evidence she could pick up 2 left votes for every 1 moderate vote, she would have done it. The reality was she would have lose 5 moderate votes for every 1 leftist vote. These groups cost us the election. Greta, not a US citizen, has more moral fiber than all of them put together.

105

u/fyhr100 Nov 15 '24

What? Greta made a statement saying both sides are to blame and told people to "make a stand" by not voting for Harris.

Anyone speaking against Democrats in this election were the opposite of helpful.

20

u/Try_Then Nov 15 '24

This needs to be stated way more often than it is.

Ok, but only go after things they can actually control. Also everything Democrats do is critiqued while the evil clown party never gets any criticism, or if there is any it's more like acceptance of the "way they are."
