That power cord laying on the ground getting wet had me like đŸ€Ș

24

u/angryano24 Jul 06 '19

Funny you mention that, I didn’t realize it was on the ground getting wet until I rewatched the video! 😅

13

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

So is it ok?

19

u/angryano24 Jul 06 '19

Yes I’m alive and not electrocuted :)

16

u/TimothyHalpern Jul 06 '19

But is the power cord ok?

10

u/antdude Jul 06 '19

Not you, silly.

6

u/angryano24 Jul 06 '19

Lol no one cares about my safety in this comment section 😂. Yes, fortunately the extension cable made it through the earthquake

5

u/cheeester19 Jul 06 '19

did the wire survive though?

4

u/loverofgreen78 Jul 06 '19

Glad you’re safe!

u/GucciGaropp Jul 06 '19

Good call on the "might be a sevener".

18

u/Counteroperativ Jul 06 '19

This was my pool too. Thanks for sharing your video. Wifey and I were getting scared from how long it lasted and just made sure we had the kids ready for anything!

10

u/angryano24 Jul 06 '19

Gosh it lasted at least a minute and a half. I ran out of the room and started recording..

Thanks.

Didn't really see anything specific there in terms of predictions. I Googled and found https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-huge-earthquake-forecast-southern-california-20190705-story.html, which says:

The odds that Southern California will experience another earthquake of magnitude 7 or greater in the next week are now nearly 11%, according to preliminary estimates from seismologists.

And the chances that a quake will surpass the 7.1 temblor that struck near Ridgecrest on Friday night are roughly 8% to 9%, said Caltech seismologist Lucy Jones.

“There’s about a 1 in 10 chance that we could have another 7 in this sequence,” she said.

More likely is that the Owens Valley will experience another temblor of magnitude 6 or greater. The odds of that are slightly greater than 50-50, Jones said. And more quakes of magnitude 5 or greater are a near certainty.

“It would be extremely unusual if we didn’t have another 5” over the coming week, Jones said.

1

Might want to unplug that power cord in case we get another, friend!

8

u/huffer4 Jul 06 '19

Slightly off topic, but is it me or is that pool water level super high? Either way, beauty pool. I really like the shape of it.

9

u/angryano24 Jul 06 '19

It’s about 6inches below the top, can’t quite tell because of, well you know, the 7.1 earthquake. Lol kidding kidding.

3

u/huffer4 Jul 06 '19

lol fair point. So crazy to see it move that much. I'm in Toronto and have never felt the power of an earthquake. I can't imagine the sensation of the earth moving like that

5

u/DontMicrowaveCats Jul 06 '19

I’m just South of HB. The one yesterday I didn’t even feel. I was walking around the house and didn’t have my glasses on so I didn’t have a stable reference point. My girlfriend was in the bed and was really surprised I couldn’t feel it. I didn’t even believe her when she was insisting an earthquake just happened.

I definitely felt the one that just happened. I was upstairs in the house again. I felt a super strange sensation of low grade motion sickness/nausea that persisted several minutes after.

It’s kind of weird when you don’t have a reference point like the pool of water since the whole earth is shaking. I don’t really have many loose objects around the house...If my blinds weren’t rattling I would have thought I was just having a dizzy spell.

5

u/verymerry19 Jul 06 '19

I totally agree with first thinking it’s a dizzy spell. I didn’t feel the one on the 4th either, but last night my whole apartment was in upheaval. At first I thought I was about to faint (it happens semi-frequently due to health problems), but then I realised it wasn’t my brain making things move, it was everything else moving around me! It’s a totally surreal feeling until you realise what’s happening, no matter how many times you’ve experienced it before.

3

u/huffer4 Jul 06 '19

Interesting. I saw a clip from the Dodgers game today and the camera was shaking so much it couldn't keep players in the frame, but the players played on like they didn't even notice. I wonder if it's kind of a similar situation.

u/HanginWitRileyCooper Jul 06 '19

I live out in New Jersey and we don’t usually get earthquakes.. watching this made me want to throw up. It’s so unsettling to watch. I’m glad you guys were okay

3

u/antdude Jul 06 '19

Every time a big quake, I get motion sickness quickly especially when I am looking at my computer screens. It happened at work, home, etc. :(

1

u/Weekly_Tip2533 Apr 05 '24

lol still in NJ?

1

u/csherry13 Apr 06 '24

Yup. Still in NJ. And the one we just had was unsettling

5

u/twinnuke Jul 06 '19

Would have been cool swimming in it

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

I dunno here are some past pools in quakes.

My water cup filled to the brim while I’m trying to get to my bed at night

Just a tip don't post your cross streets on the internet smh. A quick google search now to find a house with your pool and someone will have your direct address. Delete this

3

u/steffloc Jul 06 '19

Thanks for the tip. I totally said I had a pool 😑

3

u/mdelliott8 Jul 06 '19

Felt the quake in Palmdale, shook the house like crazy. Hopefully it ends here and we don’t get a larger one in the coming days

4

u/hdhaksnfhsgsv Jul 06 '19

Joe Rogan’s pool is tiny

3

u/SMFishbone Jul 06 '19

i heard him say “wow” and was like, wait, is that joe rogan?

2

u/teeroy766 Jul 06 '19

I was thinking Kyle Kinane

2

u/angryano24 Jul 07 '19

Nope just a short Mexican that used to smoke cigarettes

Edit: typo

3

u/TheFreedomWell Jul 06 '19

That's entirely possible.

5

u/thriftstorehacker Jul 06 '19

Lived in Sacramento during the big S.F. quake in 89. Our pool was doing the same thing.

5

u/taukulele Jul 06 '19

Westminster and was chilling in bed when it hit

Had our pool like that here in Long Beach!

3

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

Mine in Mission Viejo as well.

2

u/verymerry19 Jul 06 '19

My boyfriend’s parents’ pool out in Corona lost a good chunk of water last night, too

3

u/PureBerserk Jul 06 '19

Technically speaking couldn't this have been the big one everyone was talking about? Apparently they predict it to be around 7.8 and this one was around that magnitude and in CA. So could this technically be the big one? If not someone explain.

3

u/PatternPerson Jul 06 '19

I think the big one is supposed to be the san Andreas fault

2

u/chanteloosa Jul 06 '19

I always thought the "big one" is supposed to be on the Cascadia subduction zone?

You’re like the 4th person to say I sound like joe rogan in this comment section lmao. Hilarious

3

u/cellcube0618 Jul 06 '19

I felt this last night in Vegas. I was waking up to go to work and my bed was shaking. I was like, huh, that’s weird. I sat up to see if my dog had jumped on my bed and was breathing hard or something. After seeing she wasn’t there, I realized it was an earthquake.

3

u/BlackSER Jul 06 '19

LoL! At the 30 sec mark. He's worried about not getting wet and not worried about being electrocuted by that cord on the floor.

6

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

4

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

If your referring to the San Andreas fault, scientists are saying that the fault has nothing to do with the fault.

u/turkeybump Jul 06 '19

Yup. Mother Nature is so totes over us. Maybe after Japan reinstated whaling last week and they celebrated by harpooning a whale, earth was like alright bye.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

I hope not.. my house was built in the 80's and im not too sure it'll be able to hold up in a big earthquake.

u/Dilong-paradoxus Jul 06 '19

The L shape pattern is because of two faults that meet in the area. And on the USGS website negative numbers mean above ground, so I would wait for a more accurate depth estimate on that.

You should always assume a major earthquake is possible if you live in an area where that is possible. This earthquake is too far from the San Andreas to be directly related, and it's impossible to tell whether or not it increases or decreases the likelihood of a San Andreas earthquake because earthquakes are complicated and the faulting in the Southwest is extremely complicated. However, the Southwest is an area where two plates slide past each other and stress is always building up, so you should always be prepared regardless of recent earthquakes.

There will definitely be more aftershocks, that's basically guaranteed. Bigger earthquakes in the area of the original earthquake are possible but less likely.

1

u/red_business_sock Jul 06 '19

That’s your brain screaming that, not the earthquakes and not science.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

Earthquakes have nothing to do with the fault*

1

u/antdude Jul 06 '19

You mean two days.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '19

Where in HB? I’m by the Bolsa Chica, and our complex was swaying and creaking like a wooden boat (our pool was sloshing too!)

1

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '19

Along the coast in Southern California.

1

u/eg_twined Jul 06 '19

I was in a pool 5 hours north of the epicenter that did this.

1

u/themanhasnoname1 Jul 06 '19

Looks just like my pool tonight.

1

u/oliburr2005 Jul 06 '19
