He documenting his experiences aboard the Peking, en route to Chile to sell nitrate. To reach their destination, they had to sail westwards by way of Cape Horn, the ultimate seafaring trial.

Lots of fascinating things here but the bits about the dog are funny, how he wanted to pet the dog but the dog wasn’t trained in that way, wouldn’t understand. And the dog was trained to go around and bite the guys who weren’t moving fast enough. Crazy.
