My wife is looking to paint a wooden pallet white for an art project. What is the best paint to use?

This will be kept inside, so doesn't need weatherproofing.

I used a Cuprinol exterior colours range for the pallet I painted and it’s come out really well. The paint likes the roughness of the timber so don’t sand it too much. 👍🏻

I used to work at a pallet factory. Any paint for wood. You can use the same stuff for your window sills if it's indoor. The only exception was composite wood blocks and those don't take paint nicely so you have to scuff them up and do a few thin coats. You might read online pallets are toxic to make things out of but if your pallet has HT on the side, it's heat treated and doesn't have the bad chemicals in it.

White paint, that's what should be used.

I assume that the pallet has been prepared for painting ie sanded down etc. Use a good primer or white emulsion. Apply several coats and let it dry inbetween. Apply a white matt or gloss depending on your preference.

Slap a load of white emulsion on it. Job done 👍🏻

White emulsion will be fine.

Multiple coats and leave to dry thoroughly between coats.

We are tight arses and this year's Christmas tree was simply a fallen tree branch painted in white emulsion.

Screwfix acrylic primer then any white paint you like.

I’d consider getting a cheap airless / HVLP sprayer, even a cheapie off amazon will be fine, it’ll be way quicker than brushing.

What is the project, you say to be kept inside but is anything being kept on it like a display, can it get wet? White emulsion if just standing there, an external stain if getting used or can get wet. If the wood is dry and using an emulsion give a thinned down coat first as dry wood can absorb the water in the emulsion and surface can go dusty, then a second full coat

Hardware stores should have paint makes up for different surfaces - should be sole there for wood as it'll expand / contract with time.

Not really an answer, but the thought of someone trying to gloss the "insides" of it and making a hell of a mess is making me giggle.

Do not use gloss.
