I suspect corporate said "Articles will be written on this", and, well, you use what you got. I would assume they were not pleased with themselves, merely keeping their job. Which sucks to be in that sort of position - also knowing that if you quit over something like that, someone else will write it anyway.
At least we got an article so crappy a lot of people realize just how crappy it is, which actually is better than well-crafted propaganda, if you think about it.
Imagine working that hard to get that degree, and in the week that a 50-year-old dictatorship has been toppled in Syria, you're tasked with writing articles about how a twentysomething man played Among Us occasionally.
