COZY NOOK Turned my built in breakfast nook into a tea nook I actually use (rental)

u/purplecoffeelady Aug 17 '24
You get to live there???! I'm happy for you and I hate you 😋
177
u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
If you're ever in Denver, you can come hang out with me.
77
u/not_a_muggle Aug 17 '24
Omg I live there can I come have tea
43
u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
Sure!
49
u/ash-knight Aug 17 '24
Actually though, if you ever do a tea or tarot reading party hit me up because your place is beautiful
62
u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
I'm in the middle of helping a group of producers design a surrealist ball for November if you're interested.
21
u/ash-knight Aug 17 '24
Oh my god yes!!!!!
27
u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
If this one goes well we may build a few months long residency. We've been offered a couple old theaters that are coming back to life. Once Denver permitting gets off its ass. Hopefully by next year.

u/GapGullible9801 Aug 17 '24
As a fellow Denverite, that would be amazing! Wishing you good luck navigating Denver permitting nonsense!
8
u/VixenRoss Aug 17 '24
I immediately thought fortunate teller
3
u/FullKawaiiBatard Aug 17 '24
They do seem fortunate!

u/VixenRoss Aug 17 '24
Flipping autocorrect! I’ll leave the comment there for future generations to laugh at me

This is so incredibly creative and looks so cozy. Imagine curling up with a book there on a rainy day
13
u/Foxy_locksy1704 Aug 17 '24
Hello fellow Denverite! I came in to the comments to see where you were from because I use the same honey in my tea as you do! Shout out to Local Hive honey! Your tea nook is beautiful, it looks like the type of place I could spend hours drinking tea and reading a book!
5
u/Moosifer26 Aug 17 '24
I'll be visiting in September! Can I have tea then?
9
u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
Depends on when. We have a huge gig at a casino and I have to build several midway tents. But hit me up!

It makes me so happy to know that this cool spot is in my city 🤩 I remember your original post. I’m amazed at the transformation, the tea room looks amazing!!

This is original content!
Everything was scavenged from thrift stores or fbmp, much of it free. The plywood platform is layered with a free, never used futon mattress cut to size and covered by a free oriental rug stapled down. It just lays across the built in benches. A steamer trunk lives underneath for all the cleaning product storage that used to live in the bench storage. The chandelier is one of two white whale 1930's polychrome chandeliers I found, learned how to rewire, and installed in the house.
Edited to add details.

You're going to tell my fortune in there and I'm going to be horrified. I love it.
41
u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
I do read charms for work sometimes (I own a circus).
16
u/splithoofiewoofies Aug 17 '24
I truly thought the circus thing was like, pets and family butt an ACTUAL circus.
Yeah you're going to tell me how I die. 🥹😍
41
u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
I keep trying to be normal but the universe keeps sending me on adventures and now I rappel off hotels and walk around on stilts in creature costumes. Help.

I'm sorry, what?? Stop it. I need that backstory, because that is the coolest thing I've ever heard! Do tell!

That was in your rental?? It's gorgeous to begin with but I love what you did with it so warm and cozy
73
u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
My roommate and I just signed on for our 9th year. It's a beat up but sweet bungalow from the 1920's that's still undermarket in a great neighborhood, so we roll with it.
18
u/CN0716 Aug 17 '24
I would too! If that's the kitchen I can only imagine how charming the rest of the place looks
15
u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
It's getting there! If you go through my recent comments and posts you can find my dining room and an insta reel of my bedroom.
44
u/Cruising_Time Aug 17 '24
This is what I expect my friends to have when they invite me over. I love intimacy of it all.
70
u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
It's so cozy for two! My roommate and I keep opening a bottle of wine late at night with the windows open. It's divine when it rains.

What type of weed do you prefer?
40
u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
Indica right before bed. I own a circus so I have to be sober the rest of the time.
23
u/apostasyisecstasy Aug 17 '24
I hope I'm as cool as you when I grow up
27
u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
I'm the most awkward nerd girl ever, but the audhd brain makes pretty things.

u/sileo_puga_ledo Aug 17 '24
Whoa. How did you know the OP smoked weed? I went back to the photos looking for clues!
7
u/ericakay15 Aug 17 '24
The setup definitely gives off weed vibes.
Maybe it's because I smoke hella weed, though.

The tile wals make it feel like a bathroom
3
u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
It's so bad! It's a rental. You can catch a glimpse of the original art deco tile underneath in the corners and it was originally Robin's egg blue. So was the table. Then sometime later the owners out the awful tile up there and in the bathroom, put ugly linoleum down, and put in granite counter tops. That's one of the reasons I redid the space; nothing matched.

u/princessofpotatoes Aug 17 '24
Are you for real? Like this is real?? I cannot put into words how much I love this. Thank you for making it exist.

u/ggc5009 Aug 17 '24
Omg I'm just imagining sitting there drinking tea with the window open with a light rain.. seems heavenly!
3
u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
There's a tree right outside that is stunning in the fall. A couple branches have started to turn the last couple days (it's been stormy and cool the last week). I can't wait!

Does that table wobble when you sit there??
3
u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
It's surprisingly stable! I think the combo of short legs, firm carpet, and dense futon foam keeps it pretty steady.

u/LongjumpingScore6176 Aug 17 '24
The perspective was really confusing— at first I was like…. How the heck did they make that room 20x larger? Then I realized that the room was raised versus longer and that the furniture was short lol
Really cool space, definitely transports you somewhere else!

It’s like a gorgeous Victorian opium den. Load me up with some tea and laudanum.

I have a working hookah in the circus creature shop I need to unearth. I have a giant antique turkish one that's 5 ft tall, but that's in the dining room. It doesn't work anymore but it's awesome for burning incense.

I love this! It’s super inspiring. Where did you get the curtains for this?
1
u/Delirious5 Aug 18 '24
Thrift store. But I think they were jc penny.
2
u/meowbeepboop Aug 18 '24
What an awesome find! Thanks for sharing
1
u/Delirious5 Aug 19 '24
They are jc penny regal home. I can find some for sale with the valence in various fabrics, but not the sheer stripes.

u/saltpancake Aug 17 '24
HUGE improvement! Lovely!!

u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
Thank you! It was just a dumping grounds for paper before. I've used it more in the last month than I have in years.

It looks great! Especially with the comparison picture at the end, you changed a fairly dull and clunky looking bar into a wonderful, magical little room. Good job!

You need to start wearing lots of tassled throws and reading tealeaves for people in a mock Eastern European accent.
1
u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
My ancestors are Czech, I do wear tassled kimonos sometimes, and I read charms for work in my circus sometimes.

Your plant looks a bit sad, what about an orchid or small palm instead, would go well with the Victorian vibes.
5
u/Delirious5 Aug 17 '24
They are fbmp rescues and getting stronger. Also I have an autoimmune disorder and relapsed recently after covid so I fell down on caring for them. But they're recovering!
I live in Denver. Orchids hate it here and I've never been able to keep one alive.
