Discussion Yugo Charlotte college downs and why you shouldn’t live there.

Im writing this to inform future residents or people who are looking at living there, DONT DO IT: I lived there and first off all my experience was awful from the day I moved in, you could tell they didn’t clean the place at all before I move in there, there was dust everywhere floors weren’t even vacuumed the bathroom had trash and hair in it, now onto when I lived there, cars were broken into and stolen, There were roaches all on the first floor, things didn’t get fixed within a timely manner, the list goes on but I don’t want to make this 15 pages long. Here’s where they actually became unethical. I was scheduled to move out on November 30th, I went to drop off my keys around 12 pm, the lady there told me to come back later that day or the next day December 1st to sign paperwork. I came back the same day but they closed early leaving me and another resident wondering where they were. I came back on the first as I was told to drop and drop off my keys, as I was told. Later I receive an email saying that I need to pay rent for the entire month of December and the reason being was that I turned in my keys on the first as I was told! These people are absolute scammers. Not only did they charge me rent for December $950 but they charged me $450 worth of “cleaning fees” for a small bedroom including $150 worth of fees for “trash on the floor” when I know for a fact I did not leave any. They’re scammers and they will make up cleaning fees just to charge students an arm and a leg to move out, save yourself the headache, tell your friends and family members. I want the whole world to know how yugo Charlotte really is!

Being someone that worked at Yugo Charlotte at a time many moons ago, you are absolutely right. They are scamming trash. I am so sorry that you were unfortunate enough to end up falling victim to their endless list of schemes.

Take them to small claims court or lawyer up and give a legal letter. If anything they should only prorate charge you for the extra day (they still shouldn't) not the entire month.

Did you take pictures? I always take pictures of my apartment after moving everything out to make sure I cover my bases, and they don't unnecessarily charge me. I show them pictures if they come back around and charge me for something I shouldn't be charged for. If you didn't take pictures, in the future, take pics.

Isn’t college downs student housing though? Or am I tripping? I guess that shouldn’t matter but I usually assume those college centric apartment complexes, especially the ones off university city are always going to be shittier cause they can get away with it

The off campus apartments that cater to students aren’t allowed to discriminate against non students, so they are open to anyone.

My sister was assured they would only place her and her friend with two other students at a different off campus student housing complex. She got placed with two women in their 30s that had different men over almost every week. She felt so uncomfortable she slept on her friends’ couch every night.

With housing prices so high, those rent by the room places with all utilities included attract people the previously would have lived in low income housing, but the wait list for subsidized housing is years long, so they go live in housing designed for students.

I don't know what the percentage is now, probably we'll over 50% but in the 80s it was mostly families and some college housing. One of my best friends and several of my high school friends lived there back then. It gradually shifted as the majority of those houses became rentals.

I’d love to see a complex with Yugo, Pinto, Corvair and Edsel 🤣
