Tirade Tuesday Tirade Tuesday! Let's Do This!
No introduction needed EXCEPT ground rules:
- No personal attacks - that's basic Reddiquette. Comments will be deleted and users banned.
- Vent, don't snipe. Go on a rant and get it all out. Comments like "Charlotte drivers suck" don't cut it; "Charlotte drivers suck because [insert 250-word diatribe here]" do. See this thread as a great example.
- Keep it civilized. These are our frustrations, often emotionally charged but often shared as well, so don't take a comment personally (if someone breaks Rule #1, they'll be kicked, so don't take the bait and get kicked, too).
Now let's do this!
P.S This is the TIRADE thread, where people are free to blow off steam without having to explain themselves. If you don't like someone's comment here, kindly find another thread to browse. Any comments challenging or harassing other commenters will be removed.

Why did the city council fire the city attorney for gasp responding to FOIA requests relating to the stadium and proposed transit tax.
What is there in the stadium / proposed transit project that the public should not know about?

Firing the attorney for following the state law is actually insane. I'm not voting a single incumbent in 2025

u/Infinite_Process564 18d ago
Insane and entirely expected. The problem with being a city attorney is that everyone around you thinks that they are your super special client and they believe it is your job to get them exactly what they (personally) want.
But they are not your client. The city is your client.
But also, they can fire you.
In practice, it leads to some wacky balancing acts. My favorite recent-ish city attorney story came out of Durham last year.

Can it hurry up and get cold again? I have a closet full of stuff I want to wear but it's still too warm for a peacoat.

Can we just get one solid snow day already!?!? 😩 It can melt by late afternoon but damn, I just want one good day. Lol.

I'm honestly tired of hearing people my age cry poor, but they doordash EVERYTHING. I cannot wrap my head around why people utilize it so frequently. I can see the office lunch being delivered, groceries when you're sick, etc - but I literally live next to someone who can't afford their own house, crammed into a small office sized room with 4 people, and yet they door dash food in daily, even though they're just sitting at home.
Not to mention, the fact that the food arrives late, cold, missing, or not delivered to the correct place, the extra tip $, the inflated menu pricing.... what's the drive behind using it at that point?

I hate fluffing my Christmas tree branches every year. It’s a ridiculously easy task but something about it is so boring and daunting to me
5
u/bo_dingles 18d ago
I am considering replacing one of my christmas trees because I dislike the fluffing part. Some need little adjustments each year, but one is a pain in the ass and needs the full fluff. It shouldn't annoy me like it does, like you said it doesn't take too long and only do it once a year, but just over it

u/babypossumchrist 18d ago
Yes! I set mine up on the first and I feel like every time I walk past I see a little patch I missed or need to readjust. Might be time for an upgrade over here

my friend suggested just taking the decorations off the tree but putting the tree as is in the closet and that truly changed my life. now it’s just waiting for me to take it out and decorate

My mom came up with the MVP solution. It took a few years, and the addition of cats to the mix, but from then until the day the tree was set on fire in the driveway, it worked.
Mom’s Tree Decorating Recipe: Gather pre-lit, fully assembled tree, ornaments and hangers, various types of wire, something to cut it with, and a large vodka tonic. Place tree in center of room and decorate tree to your liking, inviting husband and children in to get their opinions on placement. Reject opinions and send kid to make you a fresh V&T. At various points, pick cats out of tree. Once tree is really done, inspect from all angles and pronounce it as perfect. Threaten to wire those goddamn cats to tree. Then, actually wire each individual ornament in place. When holidays are over, throw an old sheet over it and store it until next year.

10/10 use of free will. Maybe I’ll just stick mine in the garage

u/soundboardqueen725 Concord 18d ago
HELL YEA !!!!! like it’s going to be in storage after the holidays anyway, might as well have some mise en place to make it easier next year. decorating is the best part anyways

i hate everyone complaining about the cold and about the snow. it was just pushing 80 a few weeks ago. the summer lover freaks are manifesting warmer winters and are the loudest to complain about having to put on a jacket. SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP AND MOVE TO FLORIDA OR SOMETHING. we probably only have like five more years of somewhat cold winters and it’s already super hot like 80% of the year LET US HAVE THE COLD FOR JUST A BIT. I HATE YOU!!!!!!!!!!
i also feel this way about people complaining about it getting darker earlier. i don’t love it being dark at like 5/6pm because some of yall LED headlight FREAKS make it so difficult to drive in an already difficult to drive area, but night time at like 6:30/7pm?? beautiful, wonderful, turn on a lamp and get cozy. go to bed at a normal time because the sun isn’t still out at 8/9pm. amazing, no notes except maybe the 5/6pm thing.

I love this time of year when it gets dark earlier. People will always find something to complain about.

Tried selling something on FB marketplace. Had many people interested but three different people have not shown up for the item. Why even bother asking if it's available if you don't really want it? I've removed the listing and won't be posting anything else.

My mother-in-law sold a 25 yr old electric blower that we had stored in our garage for her. I just knew some scam artist would show up. The old man that did show up was so genuinely excited to get a brand new version of his favorite blower, it was wild. Like he wanted to talk to me about it for a good while. But yea it's mostly full of scam artists.

I usually donate, trash, or give to a friend for free because the few extra bucks aren't worth dealing with all the market place jabronis

Unfortunately the truth 99% of the time.
I have tons of stuff I could sell but it’s just not worth the hassle. FB marketplace, eBay, Craigslist (lol) all suck the fat one and guarantee lowballers, scammers and weirdos are your only responses.
I’m always amazed when someone says they sold something online and it went smoothly.

u/Tortie33 Matthews 18d ago
I belong to a buy nothing group. I try to have a local come get my stuff before I donate. I am able to get stuff in my car but I usually carry it in my trunk awhile so neighbor pick up works well for me.
3
u/RefrigeratorNo3088 18d ago
Yup, trying to sell anything online sucks ass now. If it isn't something I can trade in at a store I just donate.
3
u/sfitz0076 [Mint Hill] 18d ago
Yeah, don't remove the listing as sold on FB Marketplace until the money is in your hand and it is out of your house.
4
u/cdpgreen 18d ago
It's just going to stay in my garage until the subdivision's next yard sale. If it doesn't go then, I'll donate it. The Buy Nothing groups are just as bad with people ghosting so I've given up on them as well.

Put it on the sidewalk when it isn’t raining.
Take a picture.
Post to Nextdoor, Facebook, Craigslist, whatever saying it’s free.
Ignore any and all responses.
This works 100% of the time. In fact, depending on where you live, steps 2-4 may not even be necessary.

u/BubbaChanel 18d ago
We used to post items as “curb alert” on Craigslist and it worked like a charm.

I see that the city quietly updated the completion date of the section of LSC Greenway that Atrium is rebuilding.
Fall 2023, then Fall 2024, then "late Fall" 2024, now February 2025. Enjoy another several months using the sidewalk on Kings as the sad excuse for a detour.

I forgot to post this last week, but parents do better. As a bartender who had to server your newly fresh 21 yo on blackout Wednesday, teach them how to be proper customers.

What’s blackout Wednesday

This is my first "bar only" gig. We have an average clientele of 30-60. It was absolute hell when they descended upon us. We ran out of red bull and cranberry juice. They would close out after every mich ultra they ordered, chug it and get back in line.
One kid would walk up to order drinks for all their friends, then waiting 5 minutes for them to get them all to the front so I could card them.
We had so much broken glass on the floor we couldn't even get to to clean up. We finally closed at 1 because we had nothing left. I got home at 4.
5
u/PistolofPete 18d ago
Sounds like a bunch of filthy animals, sucks you had to deal with that. How were their tips?
3
u/Prestigious_Chard597 18d ago
Overall great for the night. But I think.most of it came from the adults who all left when the kids descended. When we turned the lights up, only 5 people were over 25. We let them sit and hang while we cleaned.

One of those nights where it takes an hour and a half to get from the SC state line to the Concord Mills exit.

u/Electrical-Bear5523 17d ago
Selling a home is so stressful. I definitely don't have the patience needed to sit & wait for the right buyer to come along in a slow market.

Massive wreck on 485 inner in Pineville area this morning. I'm once again wondering how we legally have a high-gloss finish 8 lane highway with a 70mph speed limit without reflective paint or lights. It's like driving on a mirror this morning.
