Quiche with rice?
How come my baby boomer mother makes quiche with rice in it? I’ve never seen this in any restaurant or cafe. Is it a boomer thing?! Always takes me by surprise

This sounds like a Depression-era hack to stretch food and use leftovers.

Is she from the South, by any chance? I knew a guy from New Orleans who used to add leftover cooked rice to his scrambled eggs. He told me it was an old tradition to use up whatever rice was left after making beans and rice. I remember quite liking it, although it's been a while since I had it.

I have never heard of this either! That is foolish and weird. Did it taste ok? Eggs and rice ….interesting combo 😂

Most of the rice (minute rice) just ended up falling out because she didn’t put cheese in so it didn’t have anything to really stick to…. I gave the remaining egg + rice pieces to my dog. Usually her tummy ache food 😂

She didn’t put cheese in her quiche?! Im more mad about that than her putting rice in it! 😂 I am convinced she didn’t actually make a quiche. It sounds like she just threw something together using the ingredients she had. I’m wondering if we should stop calling this a quiche.

...how does this pertain to boomers being fools?

Because I think it’s foolish that my boomer mother is putting minute rice in quiche when no one else puts rice in quiche as far as I know so I am doing some research and seeing if it’s a boomer thing which if it is then boomers are foolish because it makes no sense

Boomers have some weird eating habits. Rice in quiche, canned split pea soup followed by candy, all sorts of insane things.

I'm on the fence with this one, plenty of rice dishes with egg in/on them already and someones gotta come up with new recipes(and get the criticisms along the journey from meh to yum).
Biggest question about it, did it taste good or seem like it just needs a bit more work to taste good?
Edit: thinking about it, use basmati rice done similar to rice pilaf(without sultanas) and the whole lot wrapped up Murtabak style(Malay street food) could work well. I think I'll try it out tomorrow, this has got my creative juices flowing 😁🤤
