Has anyone else had boomers telling stories about their SA at family functions NSFW

I really want to know if this is a common experience or just something i’ve encountered numerous times which is boomers completely trauma dumping stories about them being SA’d at family functions or other social gatherings. i’ve encountered this at least 3 times.

I feel like it’s the inverse. I’ve heard them boasting about doing the SA.

No. All boomers I know push that shit down and never want to talk about any “embarrassing” hardships they had to endure.

Mental illness/anxiety? “You’re an asshole for claiming you have it. Pills don’t help and we never had therapy, so just deal with it.”

SA’d? “What did you do to deserve it? Why didn’t you report it right away? Why bring up the past? Do you want to ruin the family?”

Your daughter is dating a black guy? “You’re no daughter of mine until you stop dating him. And you better not get pregnant! I’m not having any ****** grandchildren in this family!”

Your father got someone pregnant before your mother? “It was a long time ago and she tricked him and he never gave her a dime! We are his real family! Never bring them up again!!”

These are all 100% real situations that I’ve witnessed. Some in my family, some in families of the women I’ve dated.

I’d be amazed if a boomer ever started getting “vulnerable” about anything that wasn’t a humble brag about how they had to work super hard or grew up with out a penny.

Mine like to talk about physical abuse. Apparently it’s hilarious.

They’re surprisingly non plussed about the exposed pedo priests from back in their day. It’s like they expected they would be. WTF? So their solution was to do nothing?

I mean, people joked about it for years and years before anything was done about it or it made the news.

I don't know why the adults at the time didn't take it more seriously. I'm guessing it had to do with the prevailing norm of just not talking about these sorts of things, but that's exactly what let it continue.

These same fucking Boomers are some of the ones trying to get people to put religion in schools or our government. Which is fucked because we know what happened 40-50-60 years ago before people talked about this sort of thing. Children got molested or raped.

Well, they still harbor a lot of the same beliefs as those priests. If they confronted them and held them accountable, they might have a bad time looking in the mirror and reexamining their own value system

I’m GenX (but close to boomer) and had things happen and no one was surprised (I remember how I was dressed when I was four; I was definitely asking for it.) A woman I worked with and was very close to had multiple family members do things for more than a decade. Strangely enough, her mother knew the whole time and didn’t think anything was wrong.

Yes. My mom brings up weirdly dark stuff in the middle of casual conversations. She’s talking about jobs and working with my young kiddo, segues into her first job being a babysitter, and then we’re suddenly hearing about the inappropriate stuff one of the dads did to her. I’m like, why are we talking about this now? And why with my CHILD?!

LITERALLY THIS IS THE EXAXT THING I HAVE ENCOUNTERED. when i was a kid my ex stepmother would bring up dark shit about her being SA’d as a kid at social gatherings with me and my siblings around when we were 10-11. the other day at xmas my FIL randomly brought up a dark story about how he was nearly SA’d by another man. like don’t get me wrong, it is super important to talk about these things… but holy shit time and place. but will they go to therapy? not a chance.

i straight up told my FIL “wow that’s really awful, i highly suggest going to therapy to unpack that” 🤣

Only once. I was at my in-laws cabin in Ontario. The old farmer who looks after the place came to check on things while we were there. We made polite small talk as we had never met. He asked me what I did for a living and I told him that I teach high school in juvi. He made a quip about pot smoking and joy riding not being real crimes. I told him that yes I have those kind of kids but I also have murders and sexual predators. He got really quiet and then launched into a half hour monologue about how the local one room school marm abused him in the 50s. Like a deer in the headlights. He had me cornered and I couldn’t escape
