I just signed up for Bluesky, and as far as it being the long awaited Twitter replacement, it’s currently a no-go. The number one thing Twitter offers is a way to see what’s trending: it’s a quick way in the morning to see if there’s a critical mass behind a story or world event, and what makes bringing that information to the forefront quicker than other media outlets. I understand an argument against it is the speed at which it can push sensational, and potentially untrue stories to the forefront, but like with the current ICBM story, it’s also been a way to get corrected information out more quickly, too. Bluesky has something Twitter doesn’t: great, tight, moderation. When I search hashtags or specific topics, I can filter by latest, and see it there. But for a pre-work, quick glance, it still makes it far, far, far less convenient to Twitter.

Ways that Bluesky could improve over twitters offering: better personalized trending landing page. Trending by topics such as news, politics, education, gaming, etc. I hate the facist bot army Twitter has amassed, I hate what Twitter has become under Elon. But it has a secret sauce, it’s trending tab, that its competitors all lack. Like I said, it’s what killed Threads for me. And it will kill Bluesky in the same way. If you’re si scribed to this sub, you may have an argument against this in hand, but remember, if you’re here, it may be survivor bias telling you that not having this feature is better.

TLDR: without a tending tab, I can’t see myself opening the Bluesky app regularly when Twitter offers something better at the moment.

I wish somebody told me this when I joined initially. You can subscribe to maintained lists of users that are racist, homophonic, transphobic, hateful, or just plain trolls.

Navigate to “Lists” and then add any moderation list you’d like.

I read media houses are doing 3x the traffic to twitter. The algorithm of x is cracked. But I was wondering how to grow here since theres no exponential algorithm..

So I studied all the tools and growth tutorials and curated a playbook to grow on bluesky.

It’s a mix of migrating tweets using skybridge, migrating following, using starter pack directory, following, a lot of settings changes and engagements. Theres also automations you can setup.

I'm trying to make my Bluesky experience as not annoying as possible. I want to get rid of all the homophobic + transphobic off my feeds, and also MAGA content, right wing content, fascist content etc.

Before Twitter was emuskulated, it was the only social media where I could follow discussions and perspectives across the political spectrum, while being able to control and avoid the batshit crazy people.

I'm hoping Bluesky can eventually provide that kind of forum, though it skews left at the moment. Who are the early adopters among nationally-prominent Republicans or conservative voices? (I'm looking for people/public figures, not publications.)

I've tried searching for IGN and GameRanx, but I don't know the names of any specific games journalists, or whatever you would call them. Any suggestions are appreciated, and I hope everyone has a great day 😄

hi! im a generally very open minded individual and i also post a lot of nsfw work... so of course bluesky recommends me other similar weirdos like me! however some of em are way too weird and straight up gross for my liking, like hell no i don't wanna see incest musings from some stranger or hell even pedo/loli shit! is there a blocklist i can use or something so i just don't get it on my feed? thank y'all!

I've added some feeds and blocklists to my Bluesky, but it still feels pretty empty compared to browsing reddit. Part of my problem is not knowing what I don't know -- what's out there that I might be interested in.

Also, not to overstep or add more work for the mods here, but would there be any value in a sticky for highly recommended feeds and follows? The Discover feed rarely shows me new things. The bulk of it is accounts I already follow, making it less useful since I can just check my Following feed for those.

On Twitter I had build quite the list of people I followed who are either working at some of the big AI labs and posting regularly, or journalists writing about the latest developments.

Any good suggestions on who to follow on BlueSky? That will probably cut the last strands tying me to Twitter.

I think I say somebody say they a had made a blocklist of accounts that are following tens of thousands of users (because they are spammy). Unfortunately I failed to save the link and now I wish I had. Anybody got it?

SciArt is for visual artists who engage with scientific subjects; and science about art practices. Medical illustration, paleoart, fine art, webcomics, bioart, science tattoos, astronomy photos, and more.

I maintain a contributors list, so that I can keep AI images out of the Feed. Approved contributors tag their skeets with #SciArt or 🐡 or a number of other related hashtags for them to show up in the Feed.

Just an FYI for any of my trans or LGBTQ+ people, the notorious doxxing site, Kiwifarms, is out in force on Bluesky, creating fake block lists, posing as trans people, and have a lot of auto follow bots. Included a few screenshots of what they typically look like. Please report them and block them if you see any, and be careful out there. - Scotty

Trying to get a feed setup for my hobby but must be doing something wrong. Here are ss of the feed builder and the feed preview.

Bluesky should expose the following for posts and replies:

• IP address territory. For instance, not New York City, New York but just the state (New York, USA). Similar larger area so that a person is not doxxed.
• if the content originated from a bot or the app.

I know these are not perfect and can potentially be manipulated, but it could help to isolate disinformation campaigns.

I saw that there are many feeds that are related to software/Web Development but I don't want to pin all of them.

So which one you guys think is the best feed for this?

I implemented a custom feed recently to surface research paper discussions related to machine learning field.

While implementing it, I found a way to generate and host custom feeds 100% free without requiring a dynamic backend server running 24/7.

It uses Github Actions every 30minutes for periodic feed generation, filtering, and ranking, and then pushes the JSONs on a static site using Cloudflare Pages.

Really starting to get flooded by all these suspicious accounts following me. Random generic pretty looking women, but you take a look and zero posting history and just seems to be following everyone. Any lists or apps out there yet to start filtering or autoblocking these?
