Questions/Support/Bugs My art account is being falsely labelled as adult content

So I've been posting art quite regularly on Bluesky and have now recently been hit with an adult content lable for two of my recent posts. I've just sent an appeal for them but am also wondering how well does support handle appeals/ how long do they take?

It’s not a human decision doing it 99% of the time it’s HiveAI a 3rd party they contracted to do image recognition that applied the label automatically.

(They don’t train using Bluesky user data)

Did bluesky label them or was it a 3rd party

It was done by Bluesky moderation. Seemed to be automatic since it flagged my second post immediately

I've had bluesky moderation label one of mine that was clearly art, which I'd lableled as artistic nudity, as sexual. It's hung in conservative midwest galleries and shows a nude woman from behind. I didn't bother to appeal. Life is too short to engage in endless battles with those who sexualize everything IMO.

Eh, I think it's more of a misleading label than the censoring working incorrectly. It's a nudity censor, not a sexual censor. The term NSFW exists because at work/in public, a nude picture coming up on your phone is problematic whether its porn or a nude oil painting, and the filter exists so people aren't caught off guard by either.

Internet content moderation these days tend to respond to sexual content in a weird vengeful manner, opposite to how you described. Your interpretation should be the intended behavior, but not always the reality, somehow...

Bluesky gives three options, with definitions.

  • Suggestive: Pictures meant for adults.
  • Nudity: Artistic or non-erotic nudity.
  • Adult: Sexual activity or erotic nudity.

I uploaded the photo that I described and labeled it Nudity. Their moderation team added the "Adult" label, which I am pretty sure it is not. Maybe I'm crazy but this photo is not IMO at the the level of Adult https://bsky.app/profile/linelightcolor.bsky.social/post/3lbqiwavhls2f

OK that is truly beautiful and because of media, exposure, context I can see your point. I interpret it as an intimate moment of life. Not as sexual.

But from a moderation standpoint point it looks as if they are in 69 repose, taking a breather before another tussle. I am not sure an AI can tell the difference. There are two naked people touching each other so regardless of artistic subtext it would be labeled adult.

I just mark all my stuff as Adult but I post full penetration. It’s sad you’re falling under my hard core sexual label. It’s unfair.

Oh, interesting! Ignore what I said then, I didn't know there were different categories. I agree, definutely not porn/Adult category

This isn’t how the labels work.

I was just shown a full frontal dick pick by this creepy predator website despite having nudity turned off. Maybe they should focus on not literally sexually harrassing their user base

I can tell you weren’t on Twitter just a few years ago when the outbreak of porn bots literally broke the site, or Tumblr before the purge when porn broke containment about 10k times. It’s not a Bluesky issue it’s an internet issue. Bluesky wants you to self label stuff like that. If a user doesn’t, and Hive is behind in its queue then yeah that happens.

If you think users being users and not labeling their content is the website sexually harassing you then uh… idk man.

There is a difference between lanelling something and the website showing me dick pics despite me explicitly saying "no"

The website can’t moderate the dick pic unless the users or Hive labels it as something sexual. How do you not comprehend this?

They were shown what they were searching for...

...the way the site avoids showing you dick pics is through those labels, so if they arent labeled correctly... youbget unwanted dick pics

Use. Labels. On nsfw posts.

If bsky moderation does it for you too many times, your whole account will be flagged.

They may also be mistaking a banner or pfp as nsfw when it's not. That happened to me. Just appeal it. Might take a couple days to be lifted. Especially now during the holidays
