My dad unexpectedly checked himself out of the UVA hospital once the doctor cleared him medically. He was waiting for a closer to home option as far as rehabilitation. Eventually he was able to talk our preacher into going and getting him.... is a funded rehab/services still available considering this?

Also, any recommendations of anything tangible that a newly blind person benefits from? Gadgets, education, practices, etc.

Yes. Although many of these vocational rehabilitation programs require that you're interested in working. If your dad is of retirement age, that may not be the case. In which case you may need to go through a different type of program.

My athletic husband (loved to hunt too) lost his vision at 50 y/o. It’s tough. We recently moved from Richmond where the state Dept of Blind and Vision Impaired is.

He’s happy to talk to you or your dad. He trained at VDBVI and went back to work where he managed a national team and traveled by himself.
