This might sound like a sweeping generalization (and racist) but it feels like South Asians folks genuinely look down on black people and love to kiss yt ass. I’ve seen it at work in RSA, NY, Hong Kong, and now London. Comments on social media, people like Mindy Kaling, and the UK’s last Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, reflect this. Usha Vance probably didn’t even notice the posters, and if she did, she likely didn’t think they were talking about people like her. Not saying all are like this, but my experience hasn’t been great.
I am Indian and we re absolutely braindead. So many Indians in the country and outside throw in with white conservatives not realizing they view us as lower than dirt. Oh no “we’re the good ones” bitch shut the fuck up they’re coming for you next. They also love the conservative government in India but would never dream of moving their families back. With her and Vivek though I think it’s just saying whatever to get that bag. Vivek is a career grifter as is.
Im Chinese and I see it in the older generation of Chinese. Although I think the younger generation is much better about this. The fear mongering about Communism unfortunately works on the older generation. You see this with Cubans and Venezuelans as well. They lived through tough times in their home country so the fear mongering works even though GOP doesn't actually care about them.
My older relatives actually voted Trump in 16, but through many shouting matches and heated arguments, I've finally made them see the light when it comes to Trump. They still lean conservative, but they finally understand what is at stake and how batshit the current GOP has become. If Mitt Romney were the candidate, they would probably still vote GOP, but I think some progress has been made here so I'm okay with it for now.
They absolutely do. Living in the Bay Area, I’ve observed that they fully embrace the racial hierarchy in the US. This is unsurprising given that the caste system is still very much alive and well in South Asia.
This FBI data table specifies homicide and shows that white people generally commit more homicides against the race category called “Other” which includes Asians, Indians, Native American, Pacific Islanders, etc. than black people.
Generally I cannot find FBI stats showing the stats about aggravated assault, but that means that we can’t make assumptions that one race does it more to Asians than another
But percentage wise, if you come across a single black person and a single white person, according to your own statistics you linked, the black person is 3.5x more likely to kill you than the white person if your race is “other”.
How exactly are you coming up with this 3.5x number?
i suspect you are taking the amount of homicides against “Other”and comparing it as a proportion to the total amount of homicides committed by white or black people.
The flaw here is you are treating population size and amount of homicides as a factor for who commits more homicides against Asian people and that makes no sense.
That is to say, if the white vs black homicide amounts were the same (2,700 vs 2,700) that the likeliness would still be 3.5x. But we can’t know if this is the case.
It’s only seems 3.5x “more likely” because there are 3.5x LESS total black homicides than white ones. Not because black people are more likely to commit homicide against Asians.
after the countless videos i find of asians from any country screamimg slurs at black people or going up and touching them like animals- asians are not the victim here.
White people commit more homicides against Asian people than black people per FBI crime statistics.
What you’re probably experiencing is a little recency bias and confirmation bias. If you see 3-5 recent videos of black people assaulting asians and you already believe that blacks are statistically more violent (they aren’t per FBI stats) you will go “Yup, black people are generally more violent towards Asians.”
There are 40 million black people, so making a generalization from a sample size of 3-5 videos you’ve seen is kinda nuts. Especially when it’s just as easy to find 3-5 videos of white people committing the same violence agains Asian people.
Many in my community have swallowed the model minority argument too breathlessly. I live for arguing with these asshats because as smart and hard working as they fancy themselves, their identity is based on incredibly lazy thinking
I mean to be fair South Asians occupy absolutely no space in the minds of black folks so the hate means very little, if anything to us. I always laugh when I hear about them not liking black people/darker skin because it’s like …ok? What do I do with this information?
The only part that's a sweeping generalization instead of an observable statement of fact is the bit where you claim they kiss yt ass. Many South Asian people hate goras and goris too.
That sounds like a sweeping generalization because it is. There are a number of Black politicians in the Republican party. You've got Black people holding "Blacks for Trump" signs at his rally. Would you call Black people "yt ass kissers" too or are you reserving your generalizations just for Indians?
We definitely call them ass kissers too but there's another specific term we use. Also ever heard of figureheads and industry plants? Don't think it's not a political game of chess.
Nikki Haley is a classic example of an Indian woman who wants so badly to be accepted by white conservatives despite being marginalized by them. You’ll see many more hanging out with white sorority girls than you see as allies for progressive causes. I believe a lot of it has to do with the disproportionate number of Indians immigrants coming from a privileged background themselves where they directly benefit from social stratification.
Even ghandi was the same, sucking up to the apartheid regime in South Africa. Talking about not putting Asian people in the same basket as black people cause they’re better. F ghandi
It’s not complex though. Indian immigrants are extremely well educated. Their parents came here for economic opportunity and they were raised in good school districts and went to good educational institutions overwhelmingly. They saw their parents legally emigrate to the US and sacrifice a lot for their success. They truly believe in the hard work results in opportunity mentality because that is what they lived and breathed their entire life and internalized.
They would align more with affluent white (or black or Asian or etc) people because that is economically who they are.
Black people really struggle in the US differently than any other race. They’re the only ones that didn’t emigrate here but were forced here.
I think you hit the nail on the head. She believes those signs aren’t meant for people like her, but for other people. That’s why they don’t bother her one bit.
India is basically a whiter is better kinda country. Darker skin means you have less worth. That's how the place is. I think it's changed a bit now though, I'm very light skinned and Indians in America hate me.
Imagine using Braverman as a representative for Indians in the UK - the vast majority of whom vote for Labour (i.e. are left leaning). I live in London and have never seen South Asian folks look down on black people. You will get racists in every culture, but it’s certainly not some trend within the South Asian culture.
As a black flight attendant who mainly does international flights, this is overwhelmingly true. I literally have to point out that I am NOT their servants, and just here to assist in the event of emergency & occasionally toss them some pretzels
While this is true(Indians looking down on black people), I don't see what black people and deportation have to do with one another. Black people benefit from mass deportation, as the black working class competes with illegals for jobs.
South Asian folks look down on us West Indies people, even though just a couple generations ago we would’ve been in the same village. I always get a weird, snobby face when I tell Indians that I’m West Indian.
