Since y'all can't stop clowning people when they're legitimately asking for advice...

Gifs and images in posts have been disabled until further notice.

Merry Christmas and my apologies to all the people who have been getting unnecessarily roasted this holiday season.

To the ones clowning people - I'm going to hold your hand with a napkin in between when I say this, but you never know what people are going through and dealing with in real life. Don't be their 13th reason, be nice. Consider this a formal warning to everyone.

We also need mods, there is too much clownery for our small team. Please send a modmail if you are interested in helping out.

"I'm going to hold your hand with a napkin in between when I say this"

The annoying thing was that people just ended without giving advice and just posted roasts and images. I didn't see anyone whose hair was beyond salvation, yet it was so hard to find people who gave tips.

I was in redditjail and I was so frustrated I couldn't post anything lmao.

Thank you! I was getting worried. Yeah the joke was funny at first but hair loss can cause a host of mental health issues and clowning someone when they are down asking for advice is not it. It was even worse when people told me I should leave the sub if I didn't like seeing people get made fun of because of it.

One of the people they were "roasting" was a 17 year old child. Absolutely ridiculous to make anyone feel worse about their condition but when it turns out to be a child it's just evil.Ā

u/Known-Ad-4953 2d ago

Man when I say that was really what broke my heart. How do yā€™all feel good about bullying a fucking child on Christmas?

I swear I was just about to delete this thread off my feed because of the immaturity displayed on ā€¦. Every. Single. Post. I was starting to get hurt for the people who posted and was immediately being attacked with rude comments and negative open commentary as if the person is not able to see them talk about their flaws . And for those complaining saying removing Gifs and images is unnecessary as itā€™s not that deep .It is that deep . Coming for people ( you donā€™t know ) with harsh words and rude gestures on social media is cowardly. Not to mention you donā€™t get to decide what people are sensitive about . Let me see you have the courage to display your insecurities and see how you feel when people talk bad about you knowing you already feel terrible and genuinely need help or insight on the topic . Along with black hair being beautiful it can also be very tricky as we have soooooooo many different textures and there really is no one solution for anything and not everybody has 300+ to pay a beautician or 150+ to pay a barber for upkeep and hair care tips . So I donā€™t understand why people acting funny . Weā€™re supposed to be here encouraging and uplifting each other . BE NICE or donā€™t say anything at all . Thereā€™s plenty of posts on your feed Iā€™m sure thatā€™s worthwhile responding to if you donā€™t have nothing else to do with your time .I donā€™t mean to go hard I just really donā€™t like bully behavior and thatā€™s what it started to give. Glad to see weā€™re cleaning house . Take the negativity elsewhere .

I was also considering leaving.Ā  The memes started to make this feel like Jr. High school.Ā  Glad to see the changes. I would not even be mad if it was a permanent change.Ā

17

u/NoireN 2d ago

Incredibly juvenile.

10

u/summatophd 2d ago

Yes it was.Ā

About time

35

u/Tinydesigns123 2d ago

The level of meanness was unwarranted, people need a safe space.

99

u/accountforfurrystuf 2d ago

It was funny the first time but I can see itā€™s hurtful to people who come here asking for help. Itā€™s actively stopping people from ever sharing here.

94

u/xdumbfatslut 2d ago

Good change. That hand on shoulder pic stopped being funny a while ago but whenever someone pointed out that it wasn't funny they got downvoted

6

u/NoireN 2d ago

Yup!

17

u/Contest-Less 2d ago

Thank you, thank you!! I understand that we can make jokes here and there but it was becoming a problem to where it seemed like it was being overrun by memes and no actual advice! This is a community, a judge free zone to get help for struggles with our hair, and it was honestly really disappointing seeing how we were treating EACHOTHER especially, knowing how the world already views people with hair texture like ours.

It takes a lot to even show our natural coils, especially if itā€™s not a loser texture or longer in length. I hope we can bring some positivity back into this sub now that the images have been disabled :)

15

u/illstrumental 2d ago

Thanks for making sure this is a safe space

ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø we appreciate you

41

u/Miniguerilla 2d ago

Yeah lowkey that shit was actually SO mean, it made me laugh ngl but like it was always in bad taste tbh

31

u/valiantlioness 2d ago

Letā€™s go, thank you! šŸ™ŒšŸ½

14

u/la-wolfe 2d ago

It's bad enough we can't even be there for each other. It's no surprise we don't have unity.

42

u/Just-apparent411 2d ago edited 2d ago

I called it.

There is nothing creatively black, that won't eventually get played out on the internet.

This was a smart move, because it got to the point people who had nothing even remotely good to say, were just spamming it.

26

u/stayhappystayblessed 2d ago

Right decision at first it was funny but these people just dragged it.

24

u/dreburden89 2d ago

Thank you for this. I know that razzing people is accepted "part of the culture", but it's really getting old online

6

u/diedofwellactually 2d ago

I hate when folks use that excuse to be cruel to other black people. Like, the clowning is for your friends and family, not a stranger on the internet bffr

22

u/-cheyennecheyenne- 2d ago

Great call. This isn't a comedy sub and you guys need to grow up.

16

u/anticokefreestyle 2d ago

thank you i was actually gonna unsub just because it was always the same three low-quality memes every single day.

I do think once this place is better modded that we should have some pinned posts on hair loss to cut down on the more repetitive posts

9

u/100Kept 2d ago

Say it louder for the people in the back šŸ‘šŸ‘āœØļø

6

u/Time_Return_2626 2d ago

Yupp thanks for posting this cause I was tired of seeing those posts/comments too! Like this isnā€™t a meme page

5

u/nicky-eyes 2d ago

Iā€™ve roasted someone once and I will take accountability and apologize for my immaturity and corny behavior. Hair is very important in our community and shouldnā€™t be a joke if someone is going thru something unfortunate.

17

u/AirFlows2x 2d ago

I found them funny but I didnā€™t realize that it could effect some folks who were legitimately asking for help. My apologies & hope we can be a bit more aware moving forward. āœŠšŸ¾

12

u/pistolp3w 2d ago

Thank you so mf much! I was fixing to remove this sub off my feed because of that shit.

9

u/lizthehedgehog 2d ago

Thanks, it was funny at first but when constantly used in response to people actually wanting help/advice it was pretty disappointing. Some people are coming here because they really donā€™t know how to take proper care of their hair for any amount of reasons and I have to imagine being clowned on because itā€™s an inside joke in the sub while receiving no actual response is pretty disheartening.

Especially the 17 year old I just found out about by another comment here?? Or people who have medical reasons for hair loss and want genuine help, only to find people making a joke out of you

:( it reads like weā€™re all middle schoolers making fun of others for looking different or having an unfortunate health condition that causes hair loss.

4

u/viviobrio 2d ago

I was so confused, glad yā€™all said something

10

u/Mayanieaa 2d ago

Black people be your biggest haters im trynna tell you. Its never no togetherness in our community. Just us making fun of each others not being helpfull.

5

u/TheYellowRose 2d ago

I can't fully agree with that. Joking and having fun is something that brings us together. But some people don't know when to quit and when they've crossed the line into bullying, they are the problem honestly.

6

u/Mayanieaa 2d ago

True but it comes to a point were is bullying. Making fun of others is not community

4

u/Substantial-Class945 2d ago

Ayy whoeverā€™s guilty come up, so we can slap Ure head šŸ‘‹

1

u/AvailableShift4443 2d ago

I ask a question and never got a answer

2

u/TheYellowRose 1d ago

I don't even understand your question. Also don't spam your podcast here you will get banned so fast

1

u/blacknoir23 1d ago

Great, can we stop all of the unserious posts as well. Play it straight for a while.

1

u/Stuffed-Friia 1d ago

I'm so glad. Thank you for this change because the roasting was highly unnecessary for a platform where nobody knows each other and "silly" questions are asked because right now AI is making Google basically unusable anymore, but get slammed for not being what some think is common sense.

1

u/tina_theSnowyGojo 2d ago

I think it's worth mentioning that posters also need to refrain from posting images that are better suited for medical review. I get that sometimes that's not always an option, but seeking advice on Reddit for hair loss, skin issues, or the like is going to draw out the ignorant folks

2

u/inkitz 9h ago

I wish some people would consider seeing a dermatologist first before posting to Reddit like we're doctors. It's even worse when people start recommending oil bullshit to grow back hair or some related nonsense.

1

u/dattebane96 1d ago

I understand the decision fully. It was the proper course of action. I will also miss the meme.

u/RyouIshtar 2d ago

(Grows my chin out and puts my hand on your shoulder)

Nah but tbh i do notice people be clowning but also people be posting trolly things from time to time, its hard to figure out who is legit and who isnt.

Maybe add a humor tag just (if there isnt one already)

Go to any hair loss sub and you will see people who are actively suicidal about their condition. It's really not funny.

it doesnā€™t matter what you thinkā€¦no one can control what does or doesnā€™t offend other people.

so unless youā€™re giving legitimate advice, even if it is a bit tough, learn how to shut up.

51

u/Most-Strawberry2217 2d ago

Many of us come from a culture that places an extreme value on hair, especially for women. In my particular subculture of the black american community, women aren't even supposed to cut their hair. People treat it like someone died when they do, and when a woman has long hair, she is treated better and valued more. It's a problem, but it is what it is. It can be very hard to lose your hair if you come from a culture that assigns value to your person by how much hair is on your head.

-73

u/newAceStrike 2d ago

damn yall sensitive as hell huh

56

u/Pristine_Egg_526 2d ago

This is to show our hair & get tips its not the central comedy channel you can go to another sub for that šŸ’€

59

u/KingOfTheCouch13 2d ago

You the one crying that you canā€™t bully strangers on the internetā€¦ but sure everyone else is sensitive.

16

u/Which-Decision 2d ago

No one is sensitive. You guys are weirdo losers who have nothing better to do but make fun of eachother because you hate yourselves and your blackness.

-2

u/inkitz 2d ago

I'm not gonna deny the first part of your statement but I guarantee you you're dragging it with the second part.

I get the need for the ban, but I also get we got to this point because of the constant silly questions and blurred pics. Every day is a question about balding, length for a style, or what their hair type is with either insufficient info or obvious answers (even if not obvious to them, a quick scroll would show very similar posts they could refer to, and most times a Google search would've answered it). But yeah, people were getting carried away and too quick to throw in the memes.
