Please follow ethical bird photography standards.
There have been a number of recent posts in this subreddit in which users were not following ethical bird photography practices. These posts have been removed by the moderation team so as not to perpetuate or encourage practices that cause harm and stress to birds of prey. Posts like these will continue to be removed at moderator discretion.
If you are a photographer, videographer, or birder, please familiarize yourself with ethical photography practices. A few especially relevant excerpts from the link:
Avoid causing unnecessary disturbance or stress to birds.
Nesting birds are particularly vulnerable and need extra consideration.
Never lure predatory birds (including but not limited to hawks, owls, eagles, and ospreys) with bait.
Show respect for private and public property, and consideration for other people.
When choosing to photograph/record video at a zoo, sanctuary, or rehabilitation center, make sure it’s properly accredited and conforms to best practices.
Be thoughtful about sharing and captioning your bird photos/videos, whether for print, online, or social media.
Remember, birds of prey are wild animals. They are not props for karma. They should be treated with respect. Researchers, rehabbers, falconers, and many others have proper licenses and permits to handle, display, and hunt with birds of prey, and if this describes your situation it's a good idea to state clearly that any handling of a bird in a photo was done with a permit, so as not to encourage unpermitted individuals to handle wild birds without one of those explicit purposes.
Thank you!

ID Needed: Central AZ
Found this feather east of Mesa, Arizona. Any ideas? It’s about 2.5 inches long. This feather was not kept as it’s illegal due to the Migratory Bird Act. The feather was returned to the wild after taking pictures of it. Thank you :)

rescued accipiter nisus (?)
hello! apologies if this is not the right subreddit, but i need some advice.
while on my walk i saw a bird (possibly an accipiter nisus from what i looked up online) being chased by a cat. one of his wings is injured and he understandably is unable to fly.
i managed to catch him in a blanket and took him home, where i placed him in a box. i already contacted local wildlife rescue centers but no one is able to pick him up until tomorrow.
what can i do until then? should i feed him? keep him covered? any advice is more than welcomed, thank you!
edit: a wildlife rescue took him in! he turned out to have a closed wing fracture. thanks everyone for the advice!

Predation or rough landing?
Went out to look for birds in the yard, found clues to what might have been the last moments of some little rodents. We've got plenty of crows, hawks, and barred owls around. Would love to know more if anyone recognizes these tracks!

Best Christmas morning ever.
Saw one of the pair of common buzzards that lives close to my house and managed to get the first marsh harrier sighted in the tiny lake behind my house. (No prior records of marsh harrier in that lake)

Christmas morning hawk rescue
I'm often outside on our balcony (smoking) and see neighbors walk their dogs past. Yesterday, a regular went by with her several dogs, then returned without them, with a pair of welding gloves.
I went down there, our yard near the road, and there was a big hawk on the ground, feathers pulled out at the back of its head, blood at beak corners. Acting unafraid but not aggressive. Dog walker was hesitant to handle, kept trying to pet it. Sigh. My DD grabbed some towels and a box, and i was able to wrap the bird and get it into the box. It gripped my hand so tightly, I had to slip a glove off.
Called state DNR, and they picked it up about an hour later. Officer said usually they're just stunned and fine in a few hours, but it would go to a raptor rehab.
The dog walker said a larger dark bird knocked it down and attacked it, and that it was the same kind of bird that hangs out on her trees in groups. Which implies vultures? Do they attack hawks? I'm outside a whole lot, and i haven't seen any around here, suburban area. Haven't seen anything bigger than this guy. Red-Shouldered Hawk?

This common kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) is cleared for takeoff
As so often during the last weeks, this kestrel was sitting on a tree while I walked to the nearby Örmis nature reserve, Illnau, Switzerland. But today it took off just as I pointed my camera at it. Even though the feathers on the wing tips are not sharp due to the movement, I like this photo and want to share it with you.
Shot with a Canon EOS R and a RF200-800mm F6.3-9 IS USM lens.
