Verified Flying Foxes are crucial pollinators that keep native forests healthy. Pollen sticks to their bodies as they fly between trees, pollinating their flowers. This reinforces the forest's health, which in turn provides valuable timber, honey, carbon sinks, stable river systems, & tourism opportunities.

They are so cute! Do they bite if you try to pet them? Or they just fly away I suppose? We put up a bat box, but have been staying away from it so they will feel safe to go in it.

In my country they can carry a dangerous virus spread via bites/scratch, but I think that is maybe only here, even so they can carry diseases so touching a wild bat isn't too safe unless you know for sure what you're doing 🙏 but I've seen bat handlers and have seen them closer that way and they're super cute.

Most bats don’t attack unless they feel threatened. I wouldn’t recommend trying to pet any wild animals for both their and your safety. Though they are so cute they make it tempting!

I don't think I realised these bats were what people call flying foxes, we get these at our house but I assumed flying foxes was some different animal 😅 either way they're adorable but sadly I never get to see their lil faces close up like this.
