REQUEST I Need 107.50 to clear a Community College debt!
Hey, my name is Hawke and on the 15th of this month, I celebrated my 9 months off the smelly plant (I have the AA coins to prove it)! I also have over 3.5 years off the cocktails!
I need 107.5 to clear an old debt on a school account, from my community college days, because I officially obtained permission (long story) from the people who manage my life, living situation, and therapy/medication services to go back to school.
I am going to finish my AA first (9 classes left) and then go for my Bachelor's at a well-known Uni in my city, and finally become a special education teacher for real, my dudes! I need this debt cleared so I can obtain my transcripts and obtain financial aid from FASFA. Happy New Year, and here's to a new start!
I can send proof of it upon request.

As of July, per Federal Law, colleges cannot hold your transcripts. They may make you jump through some hoops, but they legally must release them in some compacity.
I work in the Bursur's office at a well-known university, so we've been dealing with this since it came into affect.

That's really good to know! I did not know that (this bill is from some time ago), but FASFA and financial aid office can - and currently is - holding that, and without it I can't apply to the Uni to complete my AA and move on with that to complete a Bachelor's and teaching credential program! Or that'd what they explained lmao idk how this works XD

No, they definitely cannot hold it due to unpaid balance. It is illegal now. You may need to speak with your registrar's office and have them send it for you. That's how we do it at my job.
Also, FAFSA has nothing to due with holding transcripts. Your Financial Aid office may not know about the law change. I would definitely ask them about it.

Well, it applys to like 99% of cases. If you didn't use any financial aid at all, then they could still be withheld. Almost everyone receives some sort of State or Federal aid.
There are also a few states where there are no exceptions and transcripts must be released no matter what.
New York
California
Colorado
Maine
Minnesota
Washington
Ohio
Illinois
Indiana
Oregon
Connecticut
Virginia

Well the last course I took I didn’t receive aid besides a scholarship from the school.

Then I would definitely speak with your Bursurs Office and Registrar's Office. Your school may just have a policy to release transcripts anyways. I know of some schools that do just to simplify things.
Also, those states I listed apply to where the school is located and where your permanent residence is. For example, if you went to school in Florida, but live in Illinois, they still have to release the transcripts. If you went to school in Illinois and live in Florida, then they must release transcripts.

I've actually been doing special education since graduating from high school in 2014. I took a massive break in 2021 that kinda went nowhere because addiction and mental health (I get hilarious reactions by telling people I 'took a schizo to the knee.') I actually want to go into curriculum development, but you need the fancy piece of paper to do it lol
