I totally agree the US is a beautiful country but when it comes to mandarin the US is called 美国 because 国 means country and 美 (mei) is a similar to the M in America. It has more to do with phonetic translations rather than them thinking the country is beautiful. For example Canada is called 加拿大 (jia na da) cause it sounds like the name of the country

I live in TN. It is one of the most stunning areas in the country. Especially the Smokies. People need to get a grip.

It always blows my mind when people try to tell me Tokyo is this amazingly beautiful city - like, I live in the suburbs, and there's a literal shack made of corrugated steel next door to my home - and another one next to my office in the city.
The US midwest is actually jam packed with incredible architecture. Give me the Embassy Theater and Lincoln Tower over a literal fucking shack any day of the week.
If I'm being honest, the most beautiful place I've ever been has been the Taj Mahal, but it's also one of the worst places I've ever been. It seems like a particular kind of naivete to not understand that's just how the world works. People have to live somewhere. You can't have temples and shrines everywhere.

Tokyo is a great city on ground level, but it sure ain't a "beautiful city." Its modern architecture is uninspiring and its skyline is peak of bland density.
