My favorite part is when SOME countries use gold medals per capita or some BS statistic or excuse to make it look like they are owning us.

If a country could enter more participants based on a larger population it’d be a valid statistic.

As that’s not the case, it’s bogus

Well in that case we could use that stat when it comes to the FIFA world cup!!! Soccer is the 4th most popular sport in terms of youth participation and our best athletes mostly gravitate towards American Football(by far the biggest) Baseball, and Basketball. So considering soccer doesn't really get our top tier athletes , the US has done exceptionally well having made it past the group stages the last 2 world cups!!

Beating most of the world in a sport we care about as much as we care about Curling lol

I mean I was really trying to be impartial here. Soccer is the 5th most popular sport in the US 4th if we're counting participation. I'd say half of US sports fans could name a European football club if they were asked , but the majority would say either say ManU or Real Madrid. Now if you asked US sports fans to name a MLS club, probably 1 out of 10 fans could do that and that's being generous. It's probably 1 out of 15 and that's because you're correct l, we couldn't really care less about soccer in the US compared to our BIG3. Miami landed Messi, arguably the greatest player in history, but thats it. US fans ONLY care about him, NOT the actual team aspect and the sport itself. If you were to place Tom Brady and Lionel Messi in a room of US sports fans then give them the option to either get a selfie or autograph with only one, Tom Brady wins in a LANDSLIDE with United States sports fans.

Also one more thing. I think it's hilarious when other countries like Canada or the Nordic countries brag when they beat the US in the WINTER Olympic medal count while attempting to use the per capita argument!! Especially considering a large portion of the US doesn't get snow where as those countries it snows throughout the entire country sometimes all year around. I'm sorry but when considering our best athletes are mostly be located in states that don't get much snow or ice , the per capita logic is utter BS and pointless. Those icy countries actually end up with way more of an advantage over us yet we will somehow still find a way to hang in or either win the medal count!!! So go figure SKATE, but we're the one's still land the Iron Lotus!!!

Don't forget about cricket, I didn't even know we had a national team and somehow we beat one of the better teams in the world

Or my personal favorite, when they combined the medal counts of every European country that participated and then yapped on about how "Europe" beat the US.

I'm just glad we made 6th place.

Remember when people tried to say Europe was one country so it had the most medals?
