To clarify, it’s arguably even worse because not all of them are setting themselves on fire in protest. They’re setting themselves on fire because it’s better than being at this prison. The closest burn facility they have is a few hundred miles away and so the inmates know they’ll be transferred and get away from this hell hole. Some of them are just setting a leg on fire or something similar.

The place is a nightmare compared to many US prisons. And the U.S. carceral system in general is already a nightmare. So this place being worse than others is an indictment that I don’t think most folks will really be able to comprehend.

Slavery was never actually abolished. It's now just relegated to the prison system.
