Official Holiday Halftime 2022 Introduction Thread

Welcome to 90daysgoal!

The Holiday Halftime will start on Friday November 25, and will only last 30 days.

Round 40 will start at the beginning of 2022.

This introduction post is a place to announce that you are joining the Holiday Halftime!

About 90daysgoal

90daysgoal is a group of people working together to improve themselves. Whether you want to change a little or a lot, everyone is welcome. Goals can be in whatever area you wish: health, work, school, hobbies, relationships, doing less of something, doing more of something, etc. More than anything else, it's a place to discuss goal setting and progress in an open, friendly environment. If you have any questions, message the mods or ask it in the daily goal post thread!

Format

Every morning there's a Daily Goal thread where you can post your goals, ask questions, or read through other people’s updates. We usually discuss how the day before went and what our plans are for today. You can include lists, charts, or just a short text update. There's often a "BQ" included in the posts, which stands for Bonus Question and is meant to spark a conversation and to get to know your fellow goalies.

If you'd like to join us for the next round, you're in the right place--tell us about yourself and your goals in this official introduction thread.

You're free to join whenever, even if the Round has already started.

Holiday Halftime Schedule

Holiday Halftime runs from Nov 25 - Dec 24, 2022.

Daily post threads are usually up by 2-3 a.m. UTC every day so that everybody can get their updates in on the day-of.

After Dec 24, we're on break until Jan 1, 2023!

Introduce yourself!

This introduction thread is the place we get to know each other a little! Tell us all about yourself and your goals here. Meet your fellow goalies and take a look around for people with similar goals. Feel free to set your flair however you'd like. The number at the beginning indicates what round was your first (i.e. if this is your first round, select "HH22"), and then you can add whatever else to the end! If you'd like some more information about what we do, check back on this post and feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Check out our last round's introduction thread for some great examples from last round's participants!

Also join our Discord server to get in touch with fellow 90DGers!

What you get out of this community is completely up to you! Our job as moderators is to support you all as well as each other, and your job as a participant is to do the work and support each other. Welcome all, let’s have a fantastic Holiday Halftime!

Modding

Want to get more involved in 90daysgoal? We always need moderators to help out by scheduling daily posts, preparing intro posts (like this one), making sure commenters stick to our guidelines, filling in when there's a missed daily post, etc. Message any daily poster to join our team! 🤩

Hi! I’m froggie79 (just ‘froggie’ on discord). I’m your friendly Saturday poster. I’m 43F and live in the US. Anyways, I’m still up, wasting time on my phone so I thought I’d go first.

I’m going to start a happiness book (journal??) soon with a fancy new fountain pen/ink/paper that I got myself with some early Christmas money. I’ve had a few big curve balls thrown at me lately so I need to focus on the positive. I might share what I put in it for the day and I might not- I guess it depends on how personal it is.

I am also going to brush my teeth at least once a day (yes, it’s gross, and I’m sorry, but I’m human and I just haven’t been coping with stuff well.)

On the coping front, I’m going to do an experiment with a self-administered EMDR video my SIL found on YouTube. EMDR is a proven therapy technique used for processing trauma. Anyway, I’m going to watch this video for at least 3 minutes at least once daily.

I have more stuff I want to do but I try and limit my goals to three things so I’m going to stop here. Good luck, everyone!

Hello hello! I'm 34 and live in Florida. This last round was my first one, and it coincided for the most part with 12 weeks of personal leave from my job to try to recover and heal from burnout. I went back to work last week and I'm feeling soooo much better than I was before. I accomplished a lot during my first round! But there were a few lower priority things that I want to focus on for this halftime round.

Most of it is digital declutter/organization. I want to:

  1. Delete old unnecessary photos that are taking up space in my Google Photos account. I've already started, beginning with the oldest and working my way to more current pics, and have been going through at least 1 month at a time. After yesterday, I'm finally up to...January 2017 lmao. So I obviously still have a long way to go. I might have to increase my daily goal to 2 months per day to be able to reach somewhere reasonable by the end of the halftime round.
  2. Add a source tag to my......thousands of baking/dessert recipe bookmarks. I faithfully and fully tagged (not just source, but we're talking main ingredients, type of dessert like cake or pie or whathaveyou, region of origin and/or season or holiday if appropriate, etc.) the first, like, thousand or so, but then I got out of the habit and now it is the wild west in there. My logic to just focusing on adding source tags now is that at least all the links will have one tag and I can isolate based on the source and add further explanatory tags from there. I've already started on this as well and have been doing at least 30 bookmarks a day so I don't get overwhelmed or discouraged. Usually I end up doing some more, probably closer to 50. But I think I'm going to increase my goal on this as well and try to tag a minimum of 50 per day, and if I do more than that, then of course that's great.

I know I won't fully accomplish these goals in the 30 days but I will make a significant dent in them and that's what matters to me. Just have to focus my energy lol. I do have other goals as well (continuing my workout program, more firmly establishing nighttime routines, etc.) but these are what I really want to focus on for the halftime round.

Hello everyone! I'm a 37-year-old Canadian who you will see putting up Thursday's posts. My main goals will be to keep up with my writing and finish some Christmas presents I've started:

  • SMART Goal planner for myself
  • More Medium articles (also look into publications)
  • Journal & activity books for nice & nephew
  • Felt toys for my niece and nephew
  • A quiet book for the larval nephew
  • Cards & Cookies (& socks?) for the adults

I've been keeping to a routine of doing some morning meditation, journalling, dance/exercise, and then writing or artwork in the mornings, and some reading before bed to make sure I sleep generally at the same time.

Good luck everyone!

Hello! I’m 44 and live in Virginia in the us. Last round I worked on setting up routines and some healthy habits. My goals for holiday halftime are maintenance work. Keep up the goals that I set for the quarter. (Walking, tracking etc) Not gain weight in December and stay up to date with my medical appts. One thing I need to work on is negative thoughts.

I have two dogs and my hobbies are paper planning, reading and puzzles!

I like the goal of not gaining weight during the notoriously tempting holiday season. Just maintaining where you are now is progress, and we tend to forget that. Thank you for the reminder :)

Good luck!

Hi everyone! I'm bubbles, (almost) 30F living in the midwest. I've done a lot of rounds sporadically over the years, so not sure what round number this is for me. Last round, I started checking in regularly on the discord (missbubbles). This halftime coincides with my birthday and various days off work. Hopefully, I can stay on track with it all.

With this 30 day halftime, my goals are:

🧵 Finish a quilt top - I'm working on a not-so-complicated, but also kind of complicated, quilt top that I hope to finish. It's a repetitive process that can get tedious, but I'm super excited for the finished top.

📖 Read 1 fiction (Circe) and 1 non-fiction (Building a Second Brain) book.

🏋‍♀️ Go to the gym at least 3x/weekly starting on 11/28.

💸 Editing to add in: No spending between 11/28 through 12/20 (other than Christmas presents for other people). I've spent a lot of money on black Friday and as early birthday presents to myself. Its time to focus on cleaning out things and saving money.

Other than these bigger goals, I try to complete daily chores too. With 4 cats, it's important for me to stay on top of housework. And I'm always working toward the illusive goal of "weight loss" with logging calories and getting in daily steps.

I'm wishing everybody the best of luck with this halftime sprint!

Hi, I’m late 30s M in Colorado. This is my first round here. I have two kids, the youngest being under a year old.

My 30 day goal is to close all of my Apple Watch rings at least 6x/week or 23 times by Dec 25.

I am setting my move target at 600 kCal and my exercise ring is at 25 minutes. I previously had a solid 40 day streak before coming down with a string of cold and Covid so I know it’s possible.

Thinking through the challenges that might occur between now and then and how I can overcome or sidestep them:

  • temperatures are dropping and outside exercise requires prep. I will keep my sweats clean and clothes ready for the next day.
  • family commitments. Babies aren’t the best for getting a good nights rest. I can overcome this by having the coffee maker set to brew for the morning. I can also make every attempt to go to bed as early as possible.
  • Work is ramping up. Preparing for the next day and the task that need to be done ahead of time will prepare me to be on top of things and will limit last minute scrambles. Also working out first thing in the morning will both set me up for success to my goal as well as put me in a better state of mind.

That's wonderful that you've thought about challenges and how to avoid them impeding your progress. Best of luck this round!

Hey everyone my online name is Sian and I'm 24 years young. I'm currently morbidly obese at 146kg and 180cm. Looking to start this of with the goal to start counting calories consistently as my first goal. Long term I want to work on losing half my weight and getting a bit more fit as I've got walking goals as well. Hope we can all help out each other. 😆

Hello everyone, as of today, I want to start a 90-day process for myself. Is it possible to share and initiate in this way other than the round calendar?
