Replace it. Fairly easy fix if you find a few good YouTube tutorials.

I think problem is in finding same kind of rubber stick. Plastic ones can be found easily but they are quite slipperish

There are plenty of sticks, identical in feel, on ali express

Real question. If the rubber part just came off would a very small amount of super glue be my best friend here?

Just replace it.

Where would I get a good replacement part? All the replacement sticks on Amazon (and other sites I’ve noticed) are hard plastic without the rubber. Is there a replacement with rubber out there? Or just the rubber itself?

1

u/Typical-Conference14 1d ago

Well, it isn’t ripped off. Nothing is broken except the adhesive that was on before hand just gave up so is there really any reason to?

You could use super glue but it'll make the rubber super brittle in a few months. Just replacing the whole plastic disc it better in the long run

I see, that makes sense

Yes. Just the tiniest amount, place it gently and leave the console upside down so that glue doesn't drip down into the hole. I glued my stick's cover back on just fine. But it was just the cover that came off and the stick didn't break like here.

I did exactly that with mine and it works like a charm. 1 drop of super glue, apply pressure for like a minute and you're good to go buddy.

now it's a misery stick

mine did the same thing yesterday lmao

If you plan on using glue to fix, be very careful, some types of glue like super glue can cause issues, I recommend hot glue

I bought a metal one, with a gamecube style grip when mine broke. :) easy fix.

I've been looking to replace mine but those found on ali express / Ebay seem to have a plastic circle pad rather than a rubber top. If anyone can recommend where to get something close to the original part with a rubber circle pad.. would be appreciated

I’m looking for the same information. Everyone is saying “just replace it” but the replacement parts I’ve found don’t seem good enough

My biggest fear...

4

u/Dekatater 1d ago

Really? I replaced mine just for the hell of it, it's not hard at all

u/-Paraclete 1d ago

Mine too, then I spread the fear by those who rub it too much.

u/LazaroFilm 1d ago

I’m more afraid of hinge cracks…

u/DOA-FAN 1d ago

Ma man we share the same fear

You can get a replacement and it’s super easy to fix.

Its an easy fix as long as you don't break the ribbons when putting it back together. A video tutorial is recommended.

It's common for the rubber cover to come off. It's less common for the plastic to break but that also happens. iFixit has guides on how to do the replacement or you can chance it with super glue if you're careful to not drip it down the hole.

I just keep putting it back. It usually stays for a bit.

That’s a fairly easy fix. Doesn’t take much. You can order parts on eBay for really cheap.

I knew quite a few people in middle school who had this happen, also seen quite a few listings on eBay like this. It’s always the old 3DS XL, I’ve never seen it on any of the other models. Relatively simple repair compared to other issues like the hinge or screen breaking.

Should be an easy fix. I ordered replacement caps from Temu for about $5 each

1

u/hostesscakeboi 1d ago

Mine just did this and all it looked like was that the glue got old. I just put the tiniest amount of super glue on the inner circle part and let it sit for a day and a half and it’s like it never fell off. Just make sure you don’t get any in the innards.

I tried making the exact same post last week and they deleted it what ???

I've seen metal joysticks for sale. Why not try one of those!

Also there's tutorials to replace the joystick on YouTube.

1

u/JackWagon885 1d ago

what joystick?
all I see is a circle pad

also how the fuck

1

u/Termulus- 23h ago

That stick isn't joyful. Wish you good luck on replacing it

1

u/TrickedCoyote13_YT 22h ago

Same thing happened to me, I just super glued mine back on. (Assuming its just the rubber grip part)

1

u/DistributionLong5594 19h ago

Luckily the 3ds is super easy to open up and the replace circle pads

Get 2 or 3 from aliexpress as backups and look up disassembly tutorials on youtube

glue

5

u/Dekatater 1d ago

That could gum up the movement at best and prevent it from moving entirely at worst. $5 replacement from china and 10 minutes of your time is the way

-2

u/Significant_Trick369 1d ago

Super glue it

3

u/Common_Particular553 1d ago

Lmao that's what I did to mine after breaking it from seriously fighting my first Deviljho in MH4U.
