Honestly the one on 9th I found to be a little better, weirdly I think it's dirtier. But I think that's what makes it better. They're just a block from each other.
It's perfectly cromulent pizza. Not the best but I've been drunk more than once around that area of Manhattan and found myself there.

Growing up the best pizza was served for 99 cents a slice on a paper plate in a dirty ass tiny place with one single sticky table at unreasonably late hours. Never change New York. I love when you find a place that gives huge slices if you order by the slice because it’d be to big to box a pie that big. Them 1.99 slices that are an entire meal lol

I've been jealous of these stories from New Yorkers my entire life. So damn jealous.
I guess I have my own version of this in LA with Mexican food. But pizza is different. So jealous 😅

Haha I left the city ten years ago but anywhere near the city usually has really good pizza especially north on the Hudson valley because they share the same water and rumor has it that it’s the minerals in the water that make the dough so good but idk if that’s a fact or not. Late night food runs happen everywhere though I’m sure you guys have some awesome ghetto little food shops there too

This tracks with my theory that the greasier the dude making the pie, and the more of a hole in the wall the place is, the better the pizza.

Same with Mexican food in LA, particularly the valley. A hole in the wall place on a strip mall with questionable health code standards is the place to go.

Honestly, with most foods it tends to be the grosser the place the better the food. I spend most of my time in the greater Cincinnati area and the best Chinese and Thai places are the ones that I assume are passing their health inspections on a very thin line.
For my local buds, That's kind of why I feel like Amerasia has gone downhill since they renovated a couple of years ago.

No.
I mean it’s not bad, but it’s like super average and not worth going out of your way for. It’s drunk pizza.
But also CBS is off 11th Ave and most stuff over there is closed at 11:30 or whenever this was taken. It’s pretty much that or the 24 hour Subway down the street lol.

His level of physical comedy mixed with top tier rants is unparalleled
Conan has more physical, some solid rants
Stephen Colbert has great rants and delivery
The younger show hosts are good all around but they seem to still have shame or something keeping them back from just going full ANGERY OLD MAN
not that they should be doing it constantly or even frequently, because then it can be forced for a topic not as endearingly absurd/unhinged, but it's great on occasion

JD Vance went into a Donut shop and behaved like an alien asking odd questions and responding even weirder.
One of the workers there asked not to be filmed and he said "we'll just censor you then"
But they genuinely did not want to be on camera with him. He then became angry that people in the shop did not respect him for being a Vice-presidential candidate like that should give him power over the people in the shop.
And for some reason he and his campaign thought "Wow, this video is fire! He comes across so strong and cool!" and posted it themselves. And they did not censor face of the worker, either.

Would be funny to sue the campaign for filming in a private establishment when asked not too.

They're really trying to bury it. Its like JD Vance has never seen donuts, or ordered things from a human being before. He looks uncomfortable, the person serving looks uncomfortable, no one is happy at the end. Vance doesn't even to enjoy the food. Meanwhile Tim Walz orders runza at a place and its all energy and he seems more interested in the runza than posing for cameras.
→ More replies (1)61

It became apparent that Mr. Vance has never picked up donuts for the office on the way into work. Or talked to random strangers.
29
u/tstorm004 4d ago
And it's edited - these are the BEST clips from that whole event - the ones they posted and wanted people to see. I can't imagine how awkward the rest of the footage that stayed on the cutting room floor was.

u/Willingo 4d ago
Lol! Thanks for the clip. The question of "how long have you worked here" for small talk is fine and human, but the response/delivery of "OK" and "OK, good" is like he wasn't even listening and just so weird.
14
u/Xerlic 4d ago
Not to bag on food service workers, but I doubt any of them are working that job because they are passionate about doughnuts. It's fine to use how long have you worked here as an ice breaker, but the way he just asks and says okay to whatever they say comes across as very robotic. Contrast that to when Walz visited a Runza and interacted with the staff there. It came across as more human.

To me it felt like Walz's debate prep was to be kind, outwardly agree with Vance where he could to show bipartisanship, and any negativity thrown needed to be at Trump so that Vance couldn't/wouldn't get the chance to be defensive on his own behalf. I bet it was an outlined strategy to keep Walz looking like the kind reasonable Midwest dad energy everyone has been loving.
Additionally Vance caught on and started doing it himself and almost mimicking Walz's strategy because he is so well liked/ Vance's biggest hurdle is how disliked he is. You can see when he catches on midway through and starts trying to actively agree with Walz, which was not his original strategy.

I actually think the plan for Vance was "be a human being, be relatable, be respectful" considering he is not known for any of those virtues. As someone from MN that's really all you have to do to talk to anyone around here and they will give you the time of day, and that's exactly what Walz did. He can't help himself.
Walz should have gone after him on all the contradictions, should have come ready with all the bat shit crazy stuff Vance has said, shoved it in his face and made him explain it all. The only way to combat Vance is to be a viper and there is plenty of ammo out there. But Vance knows Walz's kryptonite - being polite.
It was actually fascinating and that slippery chameleon got away with it. Missed opportunity if you ask me but I can't blame Walz either.
edit: contradictions not contractions although Vance being able to have contractions is an amusing thought

People are weird about not messing up something pristine or unopened. Like, if you put a package of cookies out at a get together and don't actually open the package, fully 3/4 of people will pick another choice vs opening the damn thing. But once someone does, it's game on. I think the appeal of a pie with a slice missing is that it lets our brain know that "you can pick this without disrupting a perfect pizza and becoming a social pariah forever".
Glad you're out there asking the real shit.

This is probably the most relatable act (for me) that he's done so far. After I have a big meeting / presentation or some solo in front of a crowd, I immediately just want to go eat something not-so-good for me and just sit down and chill out. Like, enough with the games. I just want to eat some shit and enjoy the pressure being gone.
Edit: It's amazing to me how many of you think that we all don't realize this is a photo op moment. It's a photo op, and also the man had pizza as stress relief after a stressful event. Both are true. And no one bases their vote on someone eating pizza.
