Next passenger sits down and opens up his burrito.

29

u/aedroogo Jun 24 '18

Burrito power.

10

u/Itsathrowawayffs Jun 24 '18

I so wanted this to happen.

4

u/ezaspie03 Jun 28 '18

You thought you were messing with one bean, you're messing with the whole burrito.

u/DTLAfacts Jun 23 '18

2 of these coming from San Francisco today?

What is going on over there?

I’m unemployed and still feel like I have orders of magnitude more important shit to deal with than these people. I’m having a hard time imagining the meaninglessness that must be their day-to-day lives to act this way. It’s like they think they’re preventing an act of terrorism.

13

u/OnlyOnceThreetimes Jun 24 '18

It must make them so miserable and exhausting as fuck. So many minor little things going on around us all the time and each one must piss them off royally.

10

u/SolidSaiyanGodSSnake Jun 24 '18

Imagine being this guy's neighbour.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

did patty bust you for selling water without a permit too?

5

u/MrTuddles Jun 24 '18

I don’t usually comment but they included a tweet from some guy and it’s absolutely infuriating how stupid it is. It’s just mind boggling how someone could reach that conclusion.

It's the rules!!!

4

u/hupacmoneybags Jun 24 '18

I love how he argues that it’s the law. I would make a sign and put it up that says this guy has to shut up with an arrow pointing at him and say “it’s the law!”

It was over 70 degrees in SF today which means everyone's brains have clearly melted from the heat. We barely hit mid 60's on a good day.

That would be a hard competition to win.

2

u/Mac1822 Jun 24 '18

It was too hot. Also people eating on BART is fucking nasty because a good percentage of folks will just leave their trash on the car.

11

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

No they don't. Only the homeless do. I take bart 2x a day

Here in Chicago it's usually a guy with more weed on him than he should have. And naaaaaaaaaybe a gun.

49

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

Yeah. Naybe.

14

u/shallright Jun 24 '18

Lmao I just visited Chicago for the first time and have never seen so many “no guns allowed” signs at establishments

14

u/vexens Jun 24 '18

"Hi welcome to Burger King. Please check your unregistered pistol at the door"

6

u/cg415 Jun 28 '18

haha, you see all of that on BART too. If a burrito got this guy so worked up, his brain would break if he ran into someone on the train smoking weed, or drinking, or taking a shit, or a robbery, a fight, people fucking (lol its been caught on camera before), etc.

I used to work with high functioning mentally disabled adults.

One of them was independent in the community during the day, and would often ride the bus to/from various locations. That is...until we got a call from the police saying that our resident was making a commotion on the bus, and was no longer allowed to ride alone.

Turns out, he was walking up and down the aisle yelling at anyone who was eating or drinking on the bus.

So yeah...this guy in the video reminds me of a mentally disabled.adult who is on a justice streak.

48

u/Dr_fish Jun 24 '18

It definitely felt a bit off from his mannerisms.

51

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

"He's dining! Eating on the train!"

44

u/steamedhammzz Jun 24 '18

He probably made it through the early years of his life before autism was more widely recognized. More than likely he just grew up incredibly socially awkward and believed his behavior is normal.

Just a guess, but what do I know, it was only a 3 min long clip. He could just be an asshole.

5

u/StoneCypher Jun 28 '18

this man is obviously not autistic

please don't make mental diagnoses. you're hurting all the autistic people that read this, by reminding them that you think they're abusive to strangers

This is why I hate public transit.

I barbecue all the time in my Subaru on I-10, no one can say shit. I don't even care.

16

u/sophisting Jun 25 '18

You BBQ in your car? Rookie. I have a full pig on a rotisserie in my back seat when I head down I-5 once a week. No one gives a shit.

18

u/baffybonk Jun 23 '18

Is that while driving?

86

u/SqualorTrawler Jun 23 '18

Yeah but it's okay, I am sure to always keep the grill in the front seat.

15

u/carcar134134 Jun 24 '18

You joke but I worked in one of the largest truck stops in AZ and we legit sold fridges, microwaves, and toaster ovens built to go into a truck cab.

16

u/AtheismTooStronk Jun 24 '18

Have you seen the inside of a truck cab? I saw a video where a dude had a bed and full kitchen in the back, with 2 closets.

15

u/Zedyy Jun 24 '18

I used to play Counter-Strike with a trucker. He had a whole PC setup in the back of his cab.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/EndGame410 Jun 24 '18

Well tbf they practically live out of their trucks for days or weeks at a time, so they kind of need that kind of thing

4

You are an inspiration to us all! Teach us the ways of the Subaru barbecue technique.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

Yeah. I do it too but I always check the screen on my dash cam to make sure I'm a safe distance away from the car in front of me.

13

u/Brocklesocks Jun 24 '18

You hate public transit because once in a blue moon someone blows a gasket on someone else about eating? In almost 10 years of time riding Bart, I've never done across anyone that cared.

39

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

I used to take the BART to high school. When there’s spilled food on the trains it’s nasty and makes everyone miserable. But I’ve definitely been one of those people who ate a granola bar once or twice on the BART after soccer practice when my commute home was almost 40min. Small non messy snacks ok, if necessary, in my opinion, but probably don’t have 5 course meals on the BART

18

u/CheeseCycle Jun 27 '18

The article stated they issued 11 citations last year for eating on the train. According to the article that is one citation for every 8 million passengers. So obviously, it is not huge priority and besides that, Hawaiian shirt guy is just an asshole.

78

u/THEMUFFINMAN55 Jun 23 '18

What kind of fucking sad existence must you live to where you see someone eating on the train and it bothers you SO much that you have to call the police?

2

u/anonymous_being Jun 25 '18

Mental illness.

22

u/SC2sam Jun 24 '18

The thing is, if you allow some people to eat on public transportation than you have to allow everyone to eat on public transportation. Those people who eat on public transportation rarely ever clean up after themselves and just leave their mess everywhere for others to pick up. This turns the public transportation into a smelly shit stained trash vehicle. I've been on a bus where a giant fat lady was eating wings and just dropping them on the floor as if she was at some kind of barn. It's why we can't have nice things, because people treat public stuff like private property and just shit all over it.

12

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

Exactly. It’s the a “tragedy of commons” situation, sadly.

8

u/CriticalSpirit Jun 24 '18

And if it's fast food it stinks and makes everybody smell.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/eclepsia Jun 29 '18 edited Jun 29 '18

It's nothing worse than some of the things the homeless do sometimes. Those trains have to get cleaned at some point regardless, and you can't blame food for that. Are you gonna blame the busload of kids going back from a school trip? Drunk students during the holidays? Sounds like you don't ride the subway.

55

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

Can this guy please be on my train when there is a dude smoking meth, harassing passengers, or defecating? I suspect he wouldn't do shit then though

8

u/LlsRdub Jun 27 '18

He picked some soft dude he could vent on. 99% of BART eaters? You really don't want to aggravate.

19

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

Lolol. That’s exactly what I was thinking. People smoke meth and shit on those trains and this dickface is crying about a burrito.

16

u/einulfr Jun 25 '18

The real crime here is that shirt.

6

u/tentativeteas Jun 27 '18

It screams "I'm on vacation".

60

u/UnregisteredPunk Jun 23 '18

The police officers probably laughed and didn't even bother.

I bet Crazy dude does shit like this everywhere.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '18

Officers walk in eating burritos... "What seems to be the problem here?" munch

5

u/[deleted] Jun 29 '18

That was the Colosseum stop, which is essentially the heart of East Oakland. Cops did not show up.

3

u/senddita Jun 30 '18

They probably didn’t even bother calling them

61

u/SeamusSullivan Jun 23 '18

Lol, I can see getting upset if he was eating a can of tuna fish or sardines... but where’s the line. Can he eat chips?

People are such cunts. It wasn’t about him eating, it was about trying to exert his dominance.

25

u/FlingFlamBlam Jun 24 '18

Personally, the way a person eats is more important than what they eat.

Example 1: Guy eats peanuts and puts the shells back in the bag/in a different bag to throw away later.

Example 2: Guy eats peanuts and lets the shells fall on the floor/seat.

7

u/inventionnerd Jun 27 '18

Peanuts are a bad example because everyone and their mom nowadays have allergies so it's probably best if you don't eat peanuts in a train.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

Excuse me sir, peanuts have now become a federal offense.

u/TCOJS81 Jun 24 '18

The guy could have had diabetes and was having a low. I know we’ve had to eat at odd times and places but you don’t mess with blood sugars.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '18

I literally thought the same thing!

12

u/ArsonDub Jun 24 '18

What drives people to be this way? Like who gives a fuck if someone is eating on a train?

13

u/TheseNthose Jun 26 '18

Usually it's people who play the game by the book. People who grew up and went to catholic school and a ruler smack on the hands and then had to go home.

They can't stand it if people break some petty rules here or there and they lash out out of jealousy. "if i can't do it, you cant do it". Not realizing that when some people break some petty rules they accept the consequences good or bad.

I know because i worked for bank a for decade. It's full of crazy rigid ass holes who are always trying to pry into other people's business.

3

u/crapslock Jun 27 '18

Well said. He's probably a hardcore grammar nazi on the internet too.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

Do you take trains? Have you ever sat down on a dollop of ketchup on your way to work? The rules exist for a reason.

11

u/ArsonDub Jun 24 '18

I look at where I'm about to sit, so no. Also, eating =/= leaving a mess. If this guy made a huge mess maybe it would be different, but wanting to get an officer on the train for a man eating a burrito? comeonnow.jpg

CONDUCTOR WE HAVE A PROBLEM

136

u/uuurrrggghhh Jun 23 '18

What’s with these people being snitches? Is he hurting you? No? Well mind your own business.

15

u/ColonParentheses Jun 24 '18

He's perfectly fine calling the driver and reporting the "diner", because it is against the rules after all and the burrito guy is increasing the risk of a mess being made. However, he is completely out of line for acting so antagonistically towards the burrito guy. He had the option of just going over to the intercom and asking nicely for an employee, but chose instead to berate the burrito guy and make a scene.

We're making fun of his methodology, not his motivations.

151

u/J3507 Jun 23 '18

I watched a 20 something woman spill her very saucey Chinese food styrofoam container all over the front of some straphanger on the subway last month. All over his suit, midday, in Manhattan. She feigned a “sorry” and walked off at the next stop. Left her spilt food and trash right on the floor of the car. It was all over the place and it stunk. Dude was probably going back to work too.

There’s a reason you’re not supposed to eat on the train. I would likely never say anything to those who do this but here are reasons for the rules. I’m just thankful the guy who was eating was white so we didn’t have to hear about someone being racist. It’s tiresome.

24

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

Imagine if the train didn't have the 'No Eating' signs. You'd find partially eaten bagels, coffee cups spilling all over the floor, fries, tomatoes someone tossed aside from their burger, ketchup packets, pizza crusts, falafel foil crumpled up...the rules apply because they keep some order.

18

u/srroberts07 Jun 24 '18

In Toronto there are no such signs, eating is allowed and it’s nothing like that.

Though there seems to be much less litter here compared to other cities so maybe it’s a cultural thing.

66

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '18

Exactly. One person eating on the train may not seem like a big deal, but multiply it by thousands and it creates a huge mess, constantly, which brings rats etc.

Part of living in a society is making certain individual concessions for the greater good. I feel like a lot of the comments here come from people who don’t ride public transit or think about the wider problem beyond just this one guy being a dick about it.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

I don’t think a huge mess would form. In London as far as I know it’s allowed and even on long commutes I everything is reasonably clean, aside from newspapers.

4

u/Gareth79 Jun 26 '18

It's allowed on all public trains and buses in the UK that I know of. I think the only main restriction is no alcohol on TfL - it's ok on mainline trains though, so you need to finish it before either entering the Underground or exiting the station (no street drinking in most of London either!)

6

u/PaulAtreidesIsEvil Jun 27 '18

Thats because london is civilized with mannerisms. the bay area is not and is a hellhole with people misbehaving and taking every opportunity to shit and piss in public areas. if you've been on the BART or SF you'd understand.

→ More replies (9)

16

u/Dr_fish Jun 24 '18

Yeah there's a reason there is a blanket no food or drinks rule, it's just common courtesy. The guy in the video completely overreacted to the situation, but the other could also just not eat on the train like he's supposed to.

5

u/thisismybirthday Jun 24 '18

I’m just thankful the guy who was eating was white so we didn’t have to hear about someone being racist. It’s tiresome.

4

u/iamawizard1 Jun 24 '18

Its not your job to make people follow rules they have train cops specifically for this & if you feel so strongly file a complaint. Don't confront people over petty bullshit and make a scene which is bigger issue than someone simply eating.

9

14

14

u/HiGloss Jun 24 '18

I get his frustration. We really DON'T have a ton of social rules and regulations and the ones we do have are to make things comfortable for everyone. But there are always people who figure it doesn't matter if THEY do it.

It's not a BART issue, it's a social issue. It's eating on BART x 1000000. Everyday. That's the problem, people have no manners and just don't care about even the simplest of rules. Sure, eating on BART may not seem like a big deal but I'm not going to be happy if there's bbq sauce on the seat or spilled chips and soda all over the floor. Nobody would be.

13

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

Yes but on the other hand, you know what makes me uncomfortable and bothers me more than people eating? People causing a public scene and calling the cops.

3

u/HiGloss Jun 24 '18

Causing public scenes is never a good idea but understand that many times this doesn't come out of nowhere and is not surprising because when people reject social manners they can't expect everyone else to maintain them.

5

The guy eating a burito shows a lot of restraint. Saying the phrase "you must be stupid" to a random guy on a bus, especially when you yourself looks like someone who got a lot of wedgies, can make your dentist very happy.

11

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

They don't clean those train cars often enough for people to be eating in them. Same with the stations. That's why BART doesn't have vending machines and hot dog carts everywhere. They have one operator per train and maybe one station manager per station on a good day. There is no budget or manpower within the organization to be the Moms of their passengers and tidy up the place for them so it doesn't get ants.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '18

Plot Twist: Dining was the word of the day and he was almost out of time to use it in a sentence.

3

u/Moondogg55 Jun 27 '18

How much better would this video have been if the cops would have stormed the train, guns drawn, and ordered the man to "Put down the fuckin' burrito!"?

3

u/chosenxeno Jun 27 '18

He was a Hall Monitor!

3

u/nwsurfrider Jun 28 '18

My friend would be that guy, reporting "illegal dining on the premises". But he's also an Aspie and doesn't realize how he comes across to people. He just doesn't understand why people can't follow rules (which isn't terrible in itself), but he also feels it's his obligation to call people out on it (and no one likes "that guy". Exhibit A in the video).

5

u/lokitheseraph Jun 24 '18

Well I think he was complicit in the crime. After all, he failed to make a citizens arrest while the other guy was destroying the evidence.

I have misophonia. A lot of noises can easily trigger episodes of intense rage and anxiety.

Do you see me doing this to people, though? Fuck no. Why should I subject others to my problems? This guy is a dick. Plain and simple. We all have our issues, but that doesn't give someone an excuse to be a dick.

EDIT: Shouldn't have to say this, but misophonia is real. It may not be a legit diagnoses(yet), but it can be a symptom of an underlying issue.

2

u/rizzlybear Jun 28 '18

Oh man. I don't know if it raises to the level of a legit diagnosis, but my wife will sometimes just fucking SNAP from a chip bag crinkling.. certain little sounds just set her off for seemingly no reason at all. It'll be weird too, we're having a normal conversation on the couch, she can hear me eating something, and mid sentence she'll go from perfectly fine, to literally crying, whole body red, shaking in fury, trying to control herself.

u/RonDonVolante92 Jun 24 '18

I dont think he should have called for police but i have no problem with him telling off the guy eating. I fucking hate when people eat hot/ smelly food on the train. Chips or something without mess/ odour then i dont care. Also i hate this "oh it doesnt affect you, mind your own buisiness" bullshit. People think they get to tell you what does and doesnt affect them. Follow the fuckin rules.. please.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18 edited Jun 24 '18

Not a single one of you people making fun of this guy knows why public transit has signs that say "No Eating/Drinking" do you? Main reason is because that once a bus (for example) goes over a bump, theres a chance that food falls all over the floor, or worse, on another person. Without knowing possible allergies of people around you and knowing from personal experience that people on mass transit seldom clean up after themselves once a big mess is made, youre just being selfish by breaking the rules. If that guy is so starving that he literally cant wait until he is gotten off then he needs to be in a hospital.

35

u/michigander47 Jun 24 '18

Is that you in the video

7

u/ColonParentheses Jun 24 '18

The guy complaining in the video is in the right, but is going about things in such an unnecessarily antagonistic manner that it is laughable. The wrongdoing of the "diner" pales vastly in comparison to the breach of social etiquette of the complainer.

22

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18 edited Jun 24 '18

BART is an electric train system so no bumps. It's not this guys job to enforce the rules and anything beyond politely asking him to stop is being a douche.

And if someone who has bad enough allergies that smelling someone else's food triggers them, then they shouldn't be taking public transit or at the very best lest wear a serious face mask.

This guy needs to pick his battles because causing a scene over someone eating is worse than the actual eating.

You seem concerned with how the eating effected other people so I just want to guarantee that more people were made uncomfortable by the actions of the man yelling then the man eating

Do you at least acknowledge that burrito guy was in the wrong, and in violation of commonly accepted norms and rules put in place for very practical reasons. Sure, the other guy freaks out, but do you contend that Burrito pig guy is performing civil disobedience? What’s the angle? Was he rebelling against an unjust rule? Or just feeding his fat face? Please tell me.

Sure but no one cares. Every morning on BART people bring their coffee with them and it doesn't matter since it's understood that if you are bringing a hot beverage on a crowded train then at least make sure it's one of those sealed cups

Same logic with the food. If he was eating a sloppy joe and spilling it everywhere then maybe burrito guy was in the wrong but he wasn't so no harm, no foul.

Not sure if you've taken BART during commuter hours but some dude eating his lunch on the train should be the last of your worries.

This, although the usual naked guy covered in blood and feces swinging a machete talking about he's the actual devil would make most lose their appetite.

Fair enough, but I think there’s a practical difference between morning commuters having coffee, in cups they will most likely take with them, and eating a meal. And sure, the system can sustain a few people in each car ignoring the rules and eating, but where is the breaking point? What if everyone decided to eat their lunch or dinner on the train? Would that be the same as everyone drinking coffee? Of course not.

I’ve only taken the BART as a visitor, and just a handful of times; but I’ve used the subway in NYC consistently and daily for 15+ years and have encountered all manner of bad behavior. In the whole scheme of things, I think an enforced “no eating” policy here, with exceptions for things like covered beverages and obviously medical exceptions, would make this system better and perhaps curtail the mounting rat population.

The unspoken rule is that if you don't make a mess then food and drink is ok. A burrito is ok but sun flower seeds are not since most kids just spit that shit on the floor.

The chance of everyone bringing and eating food at the same time is so low that it's never a problem.

Also from my experience you see more empty coffee cups or bottles on BART trains then food containers. For example in this video if the guy just left the trash behind after eating it most likely would've been some foil bunched up in a paper bag. With coffee you get people who leave there nearly empty cups on the floor and those fall over, spill on the floor, floor gets sticky.

Why are you so angry?

3

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

I’m curious, why do you read emotion into this exchange? It’s strange to me. Can you not fathom that people can have civil disagreements without designating them “angry”? Seems small minded to me...

4

u/Worker_BeeSF Jun 24 '18

Lol Because you seem upset. The fact that you wrote me twice makes me smile.

8

u/Dr_fish Jun 24 '18

I think you enjoy seeing people angry so want to believe that this user is, that's very odd.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '18

That’s all in your perception, mate. I couldn’t be less angry about this. I wrote you twice because I wrote you the first time, then a half minute later thought “shoot, I meant to say something else”, so then I wrote another comment. No biggie. Not angry.

BART: we don't have speed bumps, we just leave you stranded for an hour underneath Oakland or throw you to the floor with jerky acceleration and sudden stops.

You're over selling it and you know it.

u/norgiii Jun 25 '18

Look the nagging dude is not wrong, but the way he goes about it is very wrong. Between the burrito guy and the whining guy, the latter one is the one who is negatively affecting the other riders.

Sometimes snitches should get stitches.

1

u/RealGsDontSleep Jun 26 '18

Dude has a point follow the rules but everyone knows we don't like snitches. Kind of feel bad for the dude cause he could have got fucked up messing with the wrong one.

1

u/ShinRaElectricPower Jun 27 '18

He should've done a citizens arrest!

1

u/shinono Jun 27 '18

Yeah and we have a lot worse that happens on the BART trains like people doing drugs and worse.........Let me know when BART police does something useful!

1

u/abuseporn69 Jun 27 '18

I would like to see what he was eating and if it could really be considered "dining". Like I kind of assume "dining" includes a place setting and all that

1

u/MichaelDarker Jun 27 '18

Wonder if instead of a burrito, the dude was eating a Big Mac? Cause I think the old man with the mail order bride is just racist against burritos...

BART! And you're there! Look, I have no prob with Burrito Man. But I do with whoever Poop Man was. I got on a train in Oakland, and honest to Heaven I stepped in a huge pile of hot fresh poop. On the Bart floor. Amazing. (It was a packed train, yet this seat was empty. I didn't pick up on the smell until my New Balances did.
