Live Action My real concern for them in the live action...
How is Zoro gonna fight back against the moss head allegations if Sanji doesn't have the curly eyebrows. What comeback can he come up with now?

u/ssbm_rando Sep 08 '24
Luckily not yet. Hopefully never. Sanji in the live action is not nearly as much of a degenerate as in the manga.

u/SadBit8663 Pirate Sep 08 '24
So far
11
u/ssbm_rando Sep 08 '24
Yes, I did say "not yet". I hope it continues. But Sanji had already dropped hints by this point in the manga.
7
u/Gr1maze Sep 08 '24
No he still does, just in a more western acceptable way.
9
u/ssbm_rando Sep 08 '24
Being interested in girls does not make you a degenerate.
5
u/Gr1maze Sep 08 '24
You're right but the fact he flirts is enough for zoro to call him a pervert for the sake of insulting him is more what I meant. There is enough of that aspect still present for it to be used as an insult.

u/HumorAffectionate966 Sep 09 '24
Lol but peeking at the women's bath (wano), sniffing a girl(perona ),fishman island (let's not mention this here)

Nah something less respectful in the restaurant a busboy or host
76
u/ThePr0tag0n1st Sep 07 '24
I think calling him anything disrespecting his role is kinda zoros goal when he insults sanji, rather in manga anime or live action.
23
u/aKgiants91 Sep 07 '24
Yeah and as you see in a lot of restaurants the respect level is dishwasher-cook-server-host-busboy

Nah man busy restaurants thrive on a strong dish crew. When you’re pumping 40-50k a day you want a crew that can keep up. I treat like mine gold and feed them what they want on company dime.

u/Parlyz Sep 07 '24
Nah I remember an interview with one of the creators of the show saying they were toning down his character to just be a smooth talking lady's man. I highly highly doubt they're gonna do the perv bit with him at all, especially since that doesn't really fly with western audiences.
63
u/dogabeey Sep 07 '24 edited Sep 07 '24
I mean, they can't have Sanji literal heart-shaped eyes, making his feet float and nose bleed at rocket-speed. Wtih removing these, he is basically a smooth talking lady's man.
21
u/PM-ME-UR-uwu Sep 07 '24
Without those things he goes from a cutesy gag to annoying, not smooth.
"Rooobiiin-chaaAAAaaaaAaan"
4
u/Parlyz Sep 08 '24
Not really. He’d still be a massive pervert simp. I mean, one of his biggest dreams in life is to have the ability to turn invisible so he can peep on women.
16
u/newbatthis Void Month Survivor Sep 08 '24
Thriller bark will have some major edits if we ever manage to get there. No way those jokes make it to the live action.
3
u/Broken_Sky Sep 08 '24
Can keep his dream to have invisibility just really need to give him a better reason for it. Maybe so he can spy on other chefs to steal their recipes or something mundane but way less eh... problematic!
1
Sep 08 '24
He wanted to be invisible because of his fathers abuse. Isn't that even stated in the relevant arc? Somehow, people remember more the gags, than the actual character backstory.
2
u/Broken_Sky Sep 08 '24
That is quite likely, it's been a long time since I watched/read the earlier arcs tbh... they will need to be light touch with it though as they won't want to give too much of his back story away at this point
1
u/guipabi Void Month Survivor Sep 09 '24
I don't think it was really stated, but it's a popular theory or analysis
1
u/Parlyz Sep 08 '24
I don’t necessarily think it would need to be extremely major. You could keep Absalom as a predatory sex pest since he’s a villain and keep Sanji as a white knight, but cut out the perv bit. Iirc, Nami is the one who ended up beating Absalom in the end anyway so it’s not like framing it that way could be interpreted as misogynistic either.

u/lostarkdude2000 Sep 08 '24
Heart shaped eyes, making his feet float and nose bleed at rocket-speed.
Yeah they can. Green screen and a harness that yoinks him up at a 45 degree angle or slight high enough up his feet are dangling, speed up the film by x2 or w/e looks natural for nosebleed rocket. Don't know if it would look like we want but it IS possible.
6
u/dogabeey Sep 08 '24
Really? OBVIOUSLY I didn't mean not possible in theory, but more like sheer ridicilousness wouldn't really go hand in hand with the show's tone.
What's next? Pandora wasn't an actual planet?

u/FacelessPoet Sep 08 '24
Even if Sanji isn't a pervert doesn't mean Zoro can't call him that. If anything, all the more reason
1
u/D-Biggest_Wheel Scholars of Ohara Sep 07 '24
I think you are taking my comments a bit too seriously. I was just trying to be funny about Sanji being a pervert.
0
u/Internal-Flamingo455 Sep 08 '24
Good I hate it it doesn’t offend me for any reason other then it not being funny I’m glad they are cutting it I don’t care if westerners find it offensive it’s just not actually funny. It ruined his character in fishman island I was starting to like him a lot then they Oda did that to him and the invisibility fruit i pray to imu they cut that too

I hope LA does for Sanji what Oda didn't. Keep him likeable around women 😅 Dude"s not an incel and obviously wouldn't hurt a girl, but it's still really uncomfortable once you're older than 15 haha

u/TheRadicalJay Sep 08 '24
Honestly even with LA Sanji not being an actual pervert, it would still work as an insult

My personal theory (which probably isn't very original) is that they might jokingly introduce the curly brows as part of the shitty drawing Sanji gets for his first wanted poster, and Zoro will start saying it after that.
I think that's pretty far off with the pace they're going for though (unless they change when he gets a bounty), so I'm not sure it's very likely. Either way it's not that big of a deal imo, there's plenty of other ways for Zoro to clap back besides the brows.

u/Agakame Sep 08 '24
Don't understand why people want the live action to be the same as the anime. It's not possible to play it the same way. It would just look too silly. The live action portrayed a good way of the anime, without overdoing it. We have seen a few live actions of animes trying to get everything the same way and it didn't work. I think one piece is doing a great job with the story. I'll look at it with OP in a different timeline. Only thing I didn't like was the special effects. Otherwise great storytelling and actors. Can't wait to see more.

2
u/baranisgreat34 Sep 07 '24
Worse to be called the other if you are the one. Makes the joke better, and works for the translated versions when they just swap them for better content. LA Zoro calls him Frenchie, that's your mosshead callback. Could work if the response act is done with enough distaste for being called it.
1
u/Flowerofthesouth88 Sep 08 '24
Yeah a South London accent for LA. But In real life he speaks in strong MLE accent when talking in English.

I hope it's because of the drawing on the wanted poster. Easily one of my favourite running jokes how people keep showing it to him he gets furious over it or whenever someone sees it they just burst out laughing :'D
