I’ve never really been able to choose one fave character so we’ll go with my top four bc I like them all pretty much the same? In no particular order!!!
Garp. What a cool guy. Very funny. As a kid I thought Grunkle Stan from gravity falls was rlly cool which maybe is where that came from? Idk. Garp’s just cool as hell and I wanna learn to draw muscles so I can draw him punching shit. I’m a simple person with simple dreams lol
Doflamingo. Weird bird man!!! I want to have a plushie of him to throw at the wall.
Mihawk!!!!! his design is so cool I made a horror game based off of him. I support Giant Swords and cool vampire-inspired guys.
Sanji! Idk, I just like him! I think he’s a fun character.
Runner ups:
Smoker!!! He’s super cool and I like his devil fruit.
Nami! Shes so me (She and i are nothing alike I am nowhere near as brave as she is haha, I just find her relatable in some aspects), plus I think she adds a lot to the crew dynamic.
CROCODILE!!!! Omg I almost forgot to add him he’s definitely one of my faves and I would have added him up there if I had space. I like the golden hook, he’s super cool.

So oda decided to fuse the idea of a blind swordsman, the blind justice, real kindness and the habilty to make meteorites fall from the sky. This is one of the coolest characters he imagined.

Bon Clay and Usopp. I think I like joke characters who have flashes of strength and bravery when their backs are against the wall.

Shark Daddy takes the top spot.
Followed by Fujitora, my venerable role model.

OP got it in 1. Marshall D. Teach is the best dark mirror/inversed hero nemesis archetype in any media this size ever. he's a counter to the protagonists entire character and moral philosophy, but isn't a pallet swap either in design or personality. he has very much the same ambition as Luffy, not just literally, but the same scope but he has none of his inherent goodness while still being a likable character that could believably be a leader of men and have companions. I don't know if he is the final boss/ultimate obstacle for Luffy but he is the most important foil that he has in the story.

u/Biegsman Sep 07 '24
Don't forget he is also the truest embodiment of piracy in a show about pirates. I believe this add to his goatness.

Mihawk! There is something fascinating about watching a character who has already completed his ambition, and is basically sailing around waiting for challengers.
I also think his backstory must be crazy because Oda has not revealed much in all this time.

u/suitorarmorfan Sep 07 '24
Ngl, it would be funny if Mihawk didn’t have a typical OP (read: sad) backstory. What if he’s just a guy who REALLY loved sword fighting all his life and is very very reserved? He’s never needed a backstory to be cool, anyways. Or maybe his backstory will be explored in an SBS question and not in the manga

Garp is up there for me, too. He reminds me of my grandpa, who was storming beaches in the Pacific in WW2.
Crazy old bastard, absolute giant, and he was always laughing. One of my first memories, at like 5 years old, was him knocking someone out in a barber shop.
The guy talked shit about a family member while he was in the chair, didn't know my grandpa, and grandpa decked him on the first step when he stood up. He just crumpled, but my grandpa grabbed him by his belt on the back and tossed him out of the shop. 80s were wild af in the coal field area of West Virginia.

So cool my grandpas died before I could meet them but they both left behind houses and big family’s . I like garp because he reminds me of my dad never being upset and telling me to be happy that I get to be free ( more free than he was at his age ).

Man that's tough....Rewatching One Piece I'ma say Vergo this mfker was righteously disrespectful🤣🤣
On top of that he really could of been one of the greats strength wise if he stayed around longer.

In a show about pirates , there is only one true pirate: Marshall D. Teach. He is the only truest embodiment of Piracy in this whole anime. And therefore my one true favorite character, even above Luffy.

Ngl, One Piece has so many great charecters that it's hard to say, but Kuma, Doffy and Zoro are definetly up there for me

u/Evil_phd Sep 07 '24
Usopp.
I don't know exactly why but I didn't even like One Piece until Usopp showed up. It took me three months to get to episode 9 and then another three months to get to episode 500.
