Fanart 2d paint on a Luffy figure
Although mostly adding outlines and shades, the result looks pretty good I think

I want to know what youβre referring to

Not sure if this is what they're referring to, but someone did a really cool, but somewhat uncanny full body-paint cosplay of Luffy in all his 2d glory that was trending on this sub 1-4 days ago. Like painted on anime eyes and all. Very talented stuff, but I can see how it was cursed lol
I wish I had a link to the og post because it was pretty sick
Edit: Aha, I went out and found it https://www.reddit.com/r/OnePiece/s/NvZD6EwtjV

I was so happy to get that reference but then I looked closer and also realised its the same person who made a straw hat with foam. r/onepiece Straw Hat with Foam

This. Me personally I also like the Afro Samurai aesthetic

Yup, tone down the ink work on the skin but I think the clothing can stay the same

Awesome bro. I love the details. He looks like a manhwa protagonist now tho π but still good shit.

You need to go easier with the line work. Maybe do thinner lines? Maybe use dark brown instead of Black?

Looked way better before

To each their own friend! I like the details that were added better than the plain figure

Put like 3 lights on the boi, to remove the shadow if possible, that would make this monkey 2D luffy pop I think

Could I trouble you to take more photos with better lighting? I think that sharp lighting would bring out the contrast better and help your impeccable line work stand out
I wonder if:
- Turn off all lights in room
- Single light source from an overhead angle
- Yellowy light if possible
- Try a medium shot too (waist up close up shot)
I'd really like to SEE your work, and more highlights and shadows from lighting should help. I think the light coming from all directions can be greatly improved on

Is this an actual figure? Or u 3d printed it? Also, what ink did you use? With most inks it usually doesnt work to just draw on figures or toys as they just end up smudged

It looks good but unfortunately because of the sculpt, I think there was bound to be too much linework. I think you could have focused on hatching the shaded areas specifically. There doesn't appear to be an identifiable light source which might be the reason it looks heavy on the ink.

.... and now he fits in with borderlands characters.
if you like it, that's all that matters, but this is past a bit much for tastes.

I like the detail, but maybe the ink tone shouldn't be that dark? It feels too noisy.

Cell shading is pretty cool but can look bad when overused or used on 3D figures

Honestly I think you couldve gone with less line detail, sometimes a little goes a long way!!
It still looks badass none the less!!

I actually think this looks really dope
But one thing that came to mind, imagine this in manga style! Like plain white figure with this level of inkwork
