I thought it might foreshadow that the Gorsei are an extension of Imu, like Vegapunk and his satellites but an evil version.
Mainly because of how the panel extended the "huff huff" across the page and him screaming as the Gorsei got attacked almost as if he got attacked.
It also could explain the regeneration.

I remember Oda being so excited to find out about that submission after he'd met Horikoshi and someone told him about it.

u/HokageEzio Aug 02 '24
THEY'RE THE SAME!!!
This is volume 23 we're talking about, so I guess that makes it around 10 years ago? The same person who, as a boy, submitted this postcard, is now a widely recognized and extremely successful professional mangaka himself!! Not only that, but his work actually ended up being serialized in the Shonen Jump magazine right alongside "ONE PIECE" itself!! This news gives me ecstatic joy. You see, a bit back at the Jump new years event, he himself actually came forward and told me about this. You should've told me earlier, I would've totally rooted for you!!
With that being said, please go and check out Kohei Horikoshi-sensei's series "My Hero Academia"!!

judging that it was a "request", Oda must have ask what kind of cover art Hirokoshi want for the celebration.
→ More replies (2)214
u/HokageEzio Aug 02 '24
Probably wasn't an actual "request" (or maybe a random fan said it years ago and Oda was saving it). I doubt Horikoshi would ask Oda to draw artwork for him (let alone his own), dude has no self confidence in his work lol.
I think the "boy from Aishi" thing was just Oda being cheeky about what he was referring to. Probably just proud a fan of his went on to become one of the best selling mangaka ever.

the main point against dial being natural is that its only seen in Skypiea, but maybe thats because its shallow enough for people to go down to take them

Seriously, Joyboy had all of this insane haki, most likely nika fruit, all the allies around the world, advanced ancient technology... and Imu's faction STILL defeated him?! holy shit, i need to know how

u/BanjoSpaceMan Aug 02 '24
I think Joyboy gave up. Imu had something on him so he surrendered. Hence why he had time to go write apologies around the world and give Emet this final Haki bomb.
He surrendered. Vegapunk also said maybe 3 or 4 times specifically he can’t judge which side is good or bad. Maybe Joyboy had a realization that his vision for the world was not working or went out of control and did what he had to

Imu is definitely physically/emotionally connected with the Elders. Thats the main reason he felt it. The haki did not reach Mariejoa by itself, it stayed around the island. Ironically I think the 5 Elders are just a different version of Vegapunks Satellites. Hidden by Oda right under our noses. The question is... how were they made? And why did Imu pick those five?

That's my theory as well, along with Blackbeard being another satellite he made in secret to fulfill his most private wish (freedom).
108
u/brool Aug 02 '24
That is a really interesting theory! Have you explained the details / evidence anywhere?
103
u/Aspie_Astrologer Void Month Survivor Aug 02 '24
Such an interesting theory...
Marco mentioned BB's body is 'different' and acted sus. We've seen BB bleed, but he could be a clone-cyborg (like the pacifista/seraphim) rather than a robot.
The biggest hint is he doesn't sleep.
His hobby is also archaeology, which would be fitting if he's 900 years old. ...but Oda has confirmed his age as 40 and we've seen him when he was Shanks' age, so his body at least doesn't seem to be as old as the Gorosei, but he could be a newer satellite I guess.
Thinking it through, it doesn't fit for me, since Blackbeard has such human personality traits like cowardice and opportunism, it would feel unsatisfying for him to just be a satellite/spy for Imu.

Unironically, one of my favourite speeches in the entire series is the one he gives his crew, vowing to follow their dreams together. It's one of my favourite One Piece absurdities that Buggy of all people is evolving into a truly epic character xP
53
u/meanbawb Aug 02 '24
He has been set up so damn nicely.
Even though I think he has to be somewhat stronger than back in East Blue, pretty much every pirate that has seriously traveled the Grand Line, let alone the New World, is stronger than him. And even if anyone wants to challenge him for his title, there's a bunch of reasonably strong followers AND Croco-boy and Mihawk behind him.
I know it's a total joke, but the way Buggy has weaseled his way out of everything since Impel Down is absolutely masterful. And since he's the scapegoat for two REALLY strong guys behind him, I doubt he has reached the end of his pirating career.
26
Aug 02 '24
I think he also mirrors Luffy's most dangerous ability according to Mihawk: the ability to always rally people to his cause. Only Luffy and Buggy are able to do it this effectively

So the fact that Saturn is still on egghead and Mars is with the other Gorosei despite being sent flying, means that the conqueror haki blast didn't teleport the gorosei, it broke the summoning technique that Saturn used to summon the other gorosei. Once that was gone they were de-summoned back to Mary Geoise.

It's just so exciting to see Oda reuse some of his previous seemingly irrelevant concepts like the weather knot in Weatheria and turn them into some epic centuries old uber Haki attack.

This truly paralleled saobody archipelego. Roger's crew saved the straw hats and kuma helped them escape. This time, joyboy's crew saved them and vegapunk helped them escape. and the incident that shook the world - like the royal dragons being punched - was vegapunk's message.

I can still remember when I thought this was gonna be a fun and short transition arc.
Glad I'm wrong.

Zoro : "Damn... The great Oden-Sama's Haki is running out, let me use everything it has left to defeat Mihawk!"
Mihawk : "God fucking conqueror storing bullshit..."
If you told me that Egghead would end with Oda reopening that conversation, I wouldn't have believed you.

Joy boy wasn't a giant, sad news. Probably he use to turn into a giant, just like Luffy does.

Anyone else noticed Joybo's Haki was so strong that it split the sky itself.
Unlike other yonkos who needs to clash before they sky split

I am guessing that Saturn stayed because he actually traveled their while the other were summoned.

I wonder.....could it be that, like vegapunk, the gorosei are also physical extension of Imu? that's why Imu was so distressed after that conqueror blast, his appendages were hit point blank with joyboy's haki.
this would explain the gorosei's immortality, because when people attack them, they're striking an appendage of a great beast, an appendage that can grow back, as long as the body is alive. it would also why they've lived so long.

If that amount of Haki can be stored in a knot, what would happen if someone wove an immense amount into a compact shape? Say, a straw hat...

Okay this giant Haki dispelled the 4 elders that were summoned.
Only Saturn, whose body traveled via boat, is still there (but untransformed).
So it seems to indicate several things:
- the body of the 4 elders were still in Mariejoa. The summoning created a story of projection of their power? Unsure.
- strong enough conqueror Haki can either detransform a fruit user, or forcefully detransform whatever the elders powers are.
And novelty: conqueror Haki can be infused in items or weapons. This also could be used by other characters in One Piece

"I knew there was no chance he would still be alive."
"You look just like him, it was nostalgic."
Luffy is confirmed to NOT be Joyboy.
So no time travel 800 years ago shenanigans. Let's got, that shitty theory can go away now.

Luffy better step his haki game up if he wants to be king. Joyboy just set the bar even higher

"D" could be an initial all Joy Boy's crew members took. It would make sense that their dreams were passed down to their offspring. It also makes sense that they were all strong and driven individuals in the first place because they acquainted themselves with Joy Boy.

In this chapter, after the Haki burst, every Elder was repelled into Mary Geoise except for Saturn, probably because Saturn was the one to summon them to Egghead. Also, last chapter we thought that Saturn was falling in the water, but in this chapter we see in the shore, still regenerating. This is to say that there is still no confirmation that the Elders are not Devil Fruit users, since we never saw Saturn enter the water and then swimming to the shore, he could simply be ended to the shore since he was very close to it still.
With that said and what we learn from this chapter, Haki can be sealed and then can be realise by anyone after a long time. And with the way Imu reacted after the Elders got repeled I think is fair to say that there is a chance that the Haki that the Elders possess are possibly borrowed from Imu, since Imu looked like he felt it too. And I still think the Elders are Devil fruit users, since that Haki burst canceled their transformations.

Crazy chapter.
How the hell did the haki dismiss everyone but Saturn? Were they never really there and it was just a projection so the haki dispelled it?
Joyboy silhouette.
And more importantly, more confirmation a Luffy isn’t literally Joyboy just so similar his old crew can’t help but recall him.
Does seem like the arc is finally over. Probably a transition chapter or two, and then finally, Elbaf.
Also, Coby, love ya kid. But no. You still aren’t even in the same ballpark.

Holyyyyyyyyy shit
a) Joyboy haki is on another fucking level
b) You can store haki
c) I think this confirms we'll get a Joyboy flashback
d) The elders and Imu are weak to his haki or is his haki just that strong?
e) Joyboy doesn't look like a giant, but maybe a Buccaneer?
f) Time for Elbaf!

Imu looking real scared. But also, I wonder if Imu is huffing because he was using his powers to help the gorosei. Only the ones who were teleport got sent back, and Emeth haki burst turned them back to humans. It felt like the haki overpowered a devil fruit ability. Imu might've felt it from so far away because it was an attack on their powers.

The really crazy thing is that the knot thing didn't come out of nowhere. We may not have known that you could store Haki in it, but we already know about the wind knot! (Chapter 523, 16 damn years ago!)

The reason that Saturn is still there is cos it was Saturn who actually went to Egghead. The rest of the Gorosei came to Egghead via Saturn's summoning. The Haki negated the Summoning Act as well as their Yokai Forms.

Buggy was so epic this chapter, he might be weak but he sure as hell is one of the best at motivating a crew now. The trio of crossguild is actually quite balanced from that point of view.
