The Krieg pirates are here! Gin, Pearl and Krieg are all in panel one. They made it to the new world!

539

u/gomu-gomu-no-ree Pirate Jun 13 '24

Oda, you madlad. As much as I laugh at the "Gin is coming back" memes, this is legit the first time they've been shown in forever right? Kinda hyped by it ngl lol

282

u/ThisIsARobot Jun 13 '24

I believe we have not seen them since the end of the Baratie arc. They've never shown up in any panels since then, no cover stories or anything. This is big news!

16

u/LeapYearFriend Jun 14 '24

For the last like 25 years there's just been endless speculation on whether or not Gin was dead. Because the last we saw of him, he described himself as "having hours to live" due to the MH5 poision, and then we never saw or heard anything of him ever again, even in cameos, even in cover stories, even in SBS.

to quote everyone's favorite journalist, this is BIG NEWS!

14

u/BootlegOP Jun 13 '24

Oda probably forgot about them until he worked on the Live Action and then WIT's remake

165

u/mrkrazy12345 Jun 13 '24

Now that we finally got the Krieg Pirates I think the only characters we haven’t really seen in forever are Captain Morgan and Kuro. I wonder what they’re up to during all this.

122

u/RPG217 Jun 13 '24

We also still don't know Arlong's status in the present time. Is he just rotting in a random prison even with the revelation of the flood that fishmen would have no problem with?

60

u/mrkrazy12345 Jun 13 '24

Last we heard he was just in prison, but since we didn’t see him in Impel Down it’s safe to assume it’s a random different one. I always liked the theory that he’s a slave in Mary Geoise though and that Nami or Jinbe will have one final interaction with him.

7

u/Raderg32 Jun 13 '24

Maybe he was sent to another place. They may have a special extra fucked-up prison for fishman like in the middle of a desert or something.

11

u/ArcadianBlueRogue Void Month Survivor Jun 14 '24

Honestly after all they learned about Fishmen since the Arlong Park events, I could see Nami getting over her hatred of him to set him free.

Then immediately kicking his ass when he tries to take her hostage.

1

u/StarryScans Jun 13 '24

Jinbe will whoop his ass like a parent would

2

u/VeryImportantLurker Jun 13 '24

Arlong is probably a slave at Mariegois that Nami will free, since he wasnt in Impel Down and theres no way he doesnt return.

1

u/Zealot_Alec Jun 14 '24

GAaahaaahaaa drown inferior species"

11

u/gomu-gomu-no-ree Pirate Jun 13 '24

And we recently had a cover chapter with Kuro right? All the old pirates are converging in the New World for the big clash :)))

17

u/mrkrazy12345 Jun 13 '24

Yeah he was on the cover of 1090 reading a book with some cats. But he might technically be the only villain whose post defeat activities are unknown. Like for all the other unseen villains we at least know Morgan escaped the marines and is on the run, Arlong and his crew were confirmed arrested, and most of Enel’s priests were excommunicated to a floating cloud. But for Kuro we have nothing.

2

u/strawhatmaterial Jun 14 '24

That was a fan request, not a cover story.

10

u/CelioHogane Jun 13 '24

The one we haven't actually seen after their arc in the present is Arlong.

Captain Morgan appeared for the Helmeppo and Kobi story being sent to Prison, and Kuro showed up in like a single cover page just chilling, unpunished.

Sure Arlong appeared on the fishman island, but as a flashback, but nothing about him after he got destroyed by Luffy.

12

u/mrkrazy12345 Jun 13 '24

Tbf I don’t think any of the non cover story covers are considered canon, so we still don’t know what Kuro is up to. And I think Morgan showed up even after that in Jango’s cover story having escaped the marines, but that was still forever ago even if it was after his defeat.

As for Arlong like you said he got the flashback, but Hatchi also confirmed that Arlong, Kuroobi, and Chew were all arrested by the marines. So even if we haven’t physically seen them recently at least we know what happened.

4

u/CelioHogane Jun 13 '24

I don’t think any of the non cover story covers are considered canon

Im pretty certain that WAS a cover story.

Edit: nevermind i was wrong.

2

u/ArcadianBlueRogue Void Month Survivor Jun 14 '24

Kuro was in a reaction panel or cover story at the end of East Blue I think? Can't remember if that was anime only.

If the water rises and Impel Down gets wrecked again it'd be funny if Arlong got a panel.

1

u/Shiroe Jun 14 '24

That was anime only. It didn't really show anything you couldn't infer from the end of the arc though, just Kuro sitting in the Black Cat Pirate's ship having been forced back into being a pirate captain and expressionlessly reacting to Luffy's first wanted poster.

1

u/bjb406 Jun 13 '24

They both made some brief appearances I think.

1

u/Rankine Jun 14 '24

Captain Morgan did have some coverage adventures.

36

u/11711510111411009710 Jun 13 '24

Pretty sure it's the first time since they debuted. So yeah, first time since 1999.

7

u/DrumsOfLiberation Thriller Bark Victim's Association Jun 13 '24

Krieg's old bounty was 17 million and he shows up again in chapter 1117

1

u/Lord_Eneru Jun 15 '24

A coincidence, partner!

3

u/hitmonwhirl Jun 13 '24

Gin cover story incomming. Living up to his promise with Sanji!

4

u/gomu-gomu-no-ree Pirate Jun 14 '24

A Krieg/Gin coverstory at this point would actual be really cool to see.

2

u/Millennial-Mason Jun 13 '24

I’m just glad he didn’t die

2

u/Doomroar Jun 14 '24

And he came back with swag! look at that coat, look at the glasses!!!

246

u/SoloNexusOrIFeed Jun 13 '24

No fucking way. You’re right! We’ve memed about it for so long I stopped believing in Gin.

3

u/Shades219 Jun 14 '24

Lmfao yeah, and of course he's alive, classic Oda

677

u/Salamandridae Lurker Jun 13 '24

Holy shit I thought you were joking, but that's literally them!

198

u/thedrq Jun 13 '24

I might be blind, but where are they

269

u/DegenerateWeeab Jun 13 '24

First page first panel on Pirate Island

115

u/thedrq Jun 13 '24

Lol, Pearl i can kinda see (he misses the elbow guards) but krieg and especially gin seem to be a stretch. Happy to be proven wrong in future chapters tho haha

94

u/Thrilltwo Jun 13 '24

Yeah Gin is, to say the least, very different to his original design... but I guess it isn't like there are any other characters with bandanas and black hair who are known to hang out with Don Krieg.
Weird he has a sword instead of his clubs though.

20

u/WatteOrk Jun 13 '24

I'd argue his original design already was one of the best Oda ever came up with. The moment he started fighting he was pure awesomeness. Same simplicity that makes the design of both Zoro and Sanji amazing.

Yeah the sword thing is throwing me off the most. It would be disappointing if he traded one of the coolest weapons for just another sword

1

u/sleepychotz Jun 14 '24

What if that is a club but with sword handle, Oda style

4

u/tryingmydarnest Jun 13 '24

Weird he has a sword instead of his clubs though

Inspired by zoro and mihawk perhaps.

1

u/DrumsOfLiberation Thriller Bark Victim's Association Jun 13 '24

probably

3

u/DrumsOfLiberation Thriller Bark Victim's Association Jun 13 '24

Gin must have trained under Vergo and forgot he wasn't a swordsman

256

u/Gray_Maybe Jun 13 '24

You can see Don Krieg's jolly roger on his shoulder guards. It's absolutely him

https://i.imgur.com/9Hmlfj1.png

123

u/WatteOrk Jun 13 '24

100% Don Krieg

The guy beside him could easily be Gin.

87

u/RedTurtle78 Jun 13 '24

he has Gin's bandana/headband. Its 100% him too

14

u/Mysterious-Ideal-989 Jun 13 '24

Holy shit they had a glow up if it's them

2

u/BootlegOP Jun 13 '24

The only time we ever saw them was when they were starving after getting no diffed by Mihawk

11

u/Majukun Jun 13 '24

It's definitely them

18

u/ThisIsARobot Jun 13 '24

How can you not see that it's them? Why else would Pearl be in that panel?

12

u/MesaCityRansom Jun 13 '24

If Pearl hadn't been there I never would have guessed it was them either, Krieg looks very different to me and Gin just looks like a dude. However, Pearl is very recognizable and makes it clear that it's the two of them.

8

u/Roskal Black Leg Sanji Jun 13 '24

The big guy has Krieg's nose and shoulders, its definitely him imo. the guy next to him looks like he could be wearing gin's headband with longer hair covering the back half. I think its them especially with Pearl on the left being obvious.

4

u/SanderStrugg Jun 13 '24

The Gin we saw had recently been imprisoned and nearly starved to death. It makes sense for a healthy Gin to look rather different.

5

u/YOUSIF20021 Lurker Jun 13 '24

Don Krieg had the same logo on his shoulder pan

4

u/bjb406 Jun 13 '24

Pearl is absolutely unmistakable. Krieg and Gin, if they were on their own then maybe it's not them, but it definitely looks like it, and that is 100% Pearl, so it has to be them.

15

u/jihyoswitness Jun 13 '24

Is it tho? I really feel like it’s just a throwaway easter egg

21

u/Salamandridae Lurker Jun 13 '24

Krieg and Gin might not have been as obvious if it wasn't for Pearl, who is immediately recognisable. That's them alright!

46

u/Gray_Maybe Jun 13 '24

That's obviously Pearl and Don Krieg. If Gin were by himself then it would be debatable whether that design is him, but since he's with the other two there's no question.

Joining Cross Guild BAYBEE. All the old Straw Hat villains are teaming up.

28

u/prfarb Jun 13 '24

Is that cross guild? I thought that was Hachinosu.

8

u/Gray_Maybe Jun 13 '24

Oh it is. I'm just assuming Don Krieg isn't joining Blackbeard as the eleventh titanic captain or anything (though that would be extremely based).

I'm just guessing that if he's going to actually take part in the final saga at all (and isn't just a fun cameo), he'll make his way to Emptee Bluffs eventually and join up there.

Or maybe Gin will bring them over to the Straw Hat alliance -- that would be fun too.

9

u/NotGloomp Jun 13 '24

I doubt he'll be significant. Just another pirate in Hachinosu. Which is cool since we know he had a whole Armada in east blue. Any ol new world pirate could have such a history.

5

u/sanctaphrax Jun 13 '24

Hachinosu is meant to be the world's greatest hive of scum and villainy, a place where every random person wishes they were a Yonko. Perfect for Krieg.

Gotta wonder how the man is doing psychologically; in the East Blue he legitimately thought he was the strongest man in the world.

1

u/The_Door_0pener Jun 16 '24

You can be apart of the blackbeard pirates without being a titanic captain.

2

u/Dsnder7 Jun 13 '24

This Kreig looks different but could be him along with the other 2, Gin without clubs is crazy.

0

u/osanthas03 Jun 13 '24

It's still debatable

Points in favor: - Pearl in vicinity - Gin has striped detailing on his clothes. - Krieg has armor with same skull shoulder pads and general structure - Krieg has what could be his polearm-type weapon on his back.

Points against: - Gin has a sword instead of his clubs - Krieg has a long chin now - Krieg lost the rubber hose lips

2

u/Gray_Maybe Jun 13 '24

Unless Demalo Black has already realized Eustass "Captain" Midd is a bum and started cosplaying as Don Krieg, it's definitely him. There's no other reason why a group of three people would be dressed as Don Krieg and his two lieutenants.

0

u/osanthas03 Jun 13 '24

It's not a distinct group of three as they're mixed with a bunch of random pirates. Only Pearl is obvious; the others are missing some key distinguishing features.

18

u/zyd_the_lizard Jun 13 '24

They're in the background but its definitely them.

9

u/RPG217 Jun 13 '24

Krieg has his jolly roger in his shoulder shield.

Pearl has similar armor.

Gin is debatable but similar enough.

2

u/ThisIsARobot Jun 13 '24

Nah, check out that bandana. That's definitely Gin.

2

u/Lord_Eneru Jun 15 '24

You have to squint but I think I can see the bandana!

3

u/MesaCityRansom Jun 13 '24

It can be both! I doubt they'll become relevant again but it's for sure them.

169

u/FireFistRJ Jun 13 '24

Gin promised Sanji that they would meet in the grand line. We will probably see them meeting in the final war arc.

17

u/bluescluestoptier Jun 13 '24

Now this needs to happen, filler or not

11

u/ExpiredDeodorant Jun 14 '24

Gin is the Ash's butterfree of One Piece

4

u/Shantotto11 Jun 14 '24

I understood that reference. Also, that means that Vivi is the Ash’s Pidgeot of One Piece.

-5

u/ArtisticAd933 Jun 13 '24

But now they are in the New World...

40

u/Starless_Night Jun 13 '24

The New World is the Grand Line. The front half is Paradise, the back half is the New World.

76

u/EricFaust The Revolutionary Army Jun 13 '24

The real biggest mystery in the series was resolved and I completely missed it on my first read through

59

u/ThatDarnCabbage Jun 13 '24

Oh my God I totally missed them, that's wild lol. This arc has been crazy.

6

u/laxnut90 Jun 13 '24

Mihawk vs Kreig rematch when?

2

u/mehmeh5 Jun 13 '24

well if they joined the Blackbeard Pirates and the Yonkou battle royale theory comes true........

11

u/guitarburst05 Jun 13 '24

So Krieg got glasses and changed his hair or something. The armor matches but his face looks so different.

Pearl, though. Pearl is still pearl.

7

u/ThisIsYourFriendAron Jun 13 '24

Perfect time for everyone to go join the glorious sub Kriegposting

11

u/ArtVandel_ay Jun 13 '24

We didn't get the big reveal from Vegapunk, but there were so many lesser ones - Krieg/Gin making it back into the story after 20 years, strong implication that Venus has Shodai Kitetsu, X-Drake's alive, Smoker's back after 10 years.

Also subtle but more emphasis on the hierarchy of the Gorosei*, with Mercury being the one to answer that it's the Iron Giant and disable it, Venus getting lots of action, Mars at least getting his own panels, and then Jupiter/Saturn being background characters

* the idea is basically the closer they are to the Sun, the more important they are, so Mercury > Venus > Mars > Jupiter > Saturn. Mr. Morj has a video detailing it further

3

u/Etiennera Pirate King Buggy Jun 13 '24

Until someone says it you really won't believe it.. We know only 3 kitetu were made. We know where the second and third are. It's the first.

Has it been 10 years since seeing Smoker..? Surely it hasn't..

New readers probably won't understand the thrill of seeing Gin again. When we started memeing about Condoriano, we'd already been memeing Gin for years. Early adopteers get a completely different highlight out of this chapter.

4

u/ArtVandel_ay Jun 13 '24

Smoker's last manga appearance was chapter 793 which came out Sep 15, 2015. So almost ten years, although that's really just a short cameo of him in bed after the events of Dressrosa take place. If we go further back to his scene with Doflamingo and Aokiji, that's chapter 699 on Feb 25, 2013, so more than 10 years.

I knew someone would comment on my Kitetsu phrasing - the only reason I phrased it is because it wasn't clear to me whether it was Venus or Zoro saying 'a kitetsu blade'. Zoro saying it would be flat out confirmation to me. Venus saying it could just mean he had history with the blades (although that's a weak out). Although I agree with other people saying it's both of them saying that bubble

It's hard to think of another fan topic/talking point that's as old as Gin coming back. Even Shanks having a Davy back fight isn't as old. Big Mom being Lola's mom is green by comparison.

2

u/mehmeh5 Jun 13 '24

I gotta wonder about the shodai. Sukiyaki is about 80 years old, so that means Venus must've gotten it relatively recently compared to his lifespan, if we're going by the theory that the Gorosei have been around for centuries

3

u/ArtVandel_ay Jun 13 '24

Well, Sukiyaki made the Sandai Kitetsu, but the wiki says that "Each of the swords were made by different generations of swordsmiths.". Nidai Kitetsu was made by Kotetsu, who was an ancestor of Sukiyaki. So the Shodai is even older than that

2

u/mehmeh5 Jun 13 '24

aaaaaaaah, been a while since i've read/seen early wano so forgot that. Guess that makes more sense than "Sukiyaki got progressively worse with every sword" lmao

2

u/HeyItsMeRay Jun 14 '24

What do U mean smoker is back after 10 years ??

1

u/ArtVandel_ay Jun 14 '24

I put this in my other reply:

1

u/Wooden-Lettuce-367 Jun 19 '24

Are we sure that's Gin? Gin's weapons where Tonfas with a Cannonball at the end, that guy with Krieg in the Panel has a Sword

1

u/kolraisins Pirate King Buggy Jun 19 '24

He is also wearing Gin's striped headband and a striped jacket that parallels his original. And frankly, narratively, it wouldn't make sense for those two characters NOT be Gin and Krieg; we know where Demaro Black is (not pirate island), and it makes a lot more sense for the characters to be the characters they look like than impostor clone characters, especially since the Krieg pirates don't have a reputation worth copying in the Grand Line.

1

u/newbatthis Void Month Survivor Jun 13 '24

0

u/JimmyDetail Jun 13 '24

Live Action in trouble.

Don't really like that he made it to the New World. They got humbled in the grand line and lost because he hid behind weapons and armor. How does a weakling like that grow so strong that he's thriving on a cutthroat island like Hachinosu ?

4

u/kolraisins Pirate King Buggy Jun 14 '24

There's a long history of Luffy's enemies growing stronger or finding their way after he defeats them. Buggy, Crocodile, Wapol, and Bellamy are examples off the top of my head.

1

u/JimmyDetail Jun 14 '24

Yeah, I know that of course. But this chump got clapped by pre bounty Luffy and was moaning that the Grand Line was too much. Not everyone needs to have a glow up arc, especially Don Krieg who only hid behind shields and gadgets. I would buy it if it was just Gin.

He must've had a crazy two years behind him to get where he is now.

1

u/BillionaireBuster93 Jun 17 '24

Maybe he got inspired by whitebeards speech

0

u/Lex4709 Jun 14 '24

Now, that just soured me on this chapter. But what you gonna do, Oda doesn't care if he retroactively ruins amazing scenes.

-2

u/Alexandre_Man Jun 13 '24

That is not them, the guy who looks like Pearl is probably Pearl, fair enough. But no one else looks like Gin or Don Krieg.
