While I didn't see it before, the panel with Koby and friends give me clear feels that they'll be the new generation of Marines after OP aftermath. They are too cool depicted at this point. They still have some growing to do, but they fit quite well.

when Vegapunk said this, I thought "aren't fishmens stupid" and then looked back at 1115 and saw the big-ass sea monsters in the ruins and understood lmao
455
u/XF10 Jun 13 '24
Thinking about it does this mean the sea kings purposefully guard these ruins and maybe they have a reason to attack ships crossing the Calm Belt?

I always found it weird that people really thought it would be easy for people living in a
Primitive world
Where advanced technology is deliberately hidden from the masses by the oligarchy.
And any people or groups remotely showing interest in learning the history of the void century get brutally annihilated as a warning or are silently wiped off of existence.
to just nonchalantly dive 200m deep to search for clues of ancient civilizations most people don't know exist. Sure, if every ancient civilization was 200m below sea and also miraculously near coasts and continental shelves then it would be possible. However, in all likelihood these are in random spots in the ocean. Our ocean floors are almost impossible to fully map using all our advanced technology but how would One Piece people do this with more primitive equipment and way more water coverage?

I want to add a few details about how Vegapunk's final sentence is phrased in japanese. Here's the sentence.
"D."の名を持つ者達へ...お前さん達の中に... も...
"D." no na wo motsu mono tachi he... omaesan tachi no naka ni... mo...
To those who bare the name "D.", among you there is... "mo"...
TCB mentions that the も (mo) could be the particle meaning also, but I find it very unlikely. In japanese, particles are always attached to the noun or nominal group it's related to. For example Luffy's famous sentence "kaizoku ou ni, ore wa naru" has two particles, "ni" and "wa". When Luffy pauses, he usually does it in two places, after the ni and after the wa, so "kaizoku ou ni (pause)... ore wa (pause)... naru" he could never say "kaizoku ou... (pause) ni ore... (pause) wa naru", it just doesn't work. In Vegapunk's sentence if the も (mo) was a particle it would be connected to other particle, に (ni) and there wouldn't be a pause before or between the two.
I think the most likely option is for "mo" to just be the first syllable of the next word and it was abruptly cut.
Another thing to be aware of is that in japanese there are basically two syllabaries hiragana and katakana. Broadly speaking, the hiragana are used for japanese words while katakana are used for any word that is foreign, so from english, french, spanish or anything that is not actually japanese (or sometimes chinese) really. Here, the mo character is written in hiragana (も) and not in katakana (モ), which makes it more likely to be an actual japanese word than a word like "Monkey", "monster", "mole" and other english words that have been theorized since the leaks came out.
My personal theory is that this is how Vegapunk's sentence was supposed to be:
"D."の名を持つ者達へ...お前さん達の中に... もう一人のジョイボーイがいる!
"D." no na wo motsu mono tachi he... omaesan tachi no naka ni... mou hitori no Joyboy ga iru!
To those who bare the name "D."... Among you there is... another Joyboy!
by another I mean a different Joyboy than the one who lived in the void century, the "mo" being the beginning of the words "mou hitori" meaning "one more person". But again, that's my personal take it doesn't have to be that.

On one hand, the gorosei stopped vegapunks stream rigth before his messaged to the Ds, and secured access to mother flame and york
But, on the other hand, the straw hats will 100% get away, and the world at large is more or less aware about thier genocide plans
197
u/NiceSithLord Jun 13 '24
Is the world aware though? VP did not actually say who destroyed lulusia, only that it was an ancient weapon that did it. He also said that it was the WG's enemy, the pirate joyboy, who wanted to preserve the ancient weapons.

Seems like a draw? Although Mother Flame is pretty important to their plans
→ More replies (4)461
u/Behanort Jun 13 '24
yeah, to me it was pretty clear the arc would end in a draw between SHs and WG, for two reasons:
this is the first arc of the final saga, basically the opening act of this storys final installment, and these are Main Villain's top tier generals - it was very unlikely to me all of them o even some of them would lose here
Oda set up the win conditoon for the straw hats to be "escape with vegapunks", and now theyre doing just that, but with half the vegapunks dead or about to die, like Edison

u/Far-Wind2370 Jun 13 '24

York will also have access to Vegapunk's record since they'll have control of the island.
Assuming they don't kill the brain because they still want to use York.
That said they also do have the body of Vegapunk prime, so the remaining punks can revitalize that one.

“First arc of the final saga” that line makes me kinda excited for how much one piece we have left. It’s probably going to be shorter than the kaido wano get luffy to be an emperor saga that started at punk hazard but hopefully it has a couple arcs left.

Zoro owns Sandai Kitetsu (3rd hand of the devil), found Nidai Kitetsu in Wano (2nd hand, although that didnt go anywhere shockingly), and this one os confirmed to be Shodai Kitetsu, the first hand, and the most powerful, a sword in the same hierarchy as Yoru (Mihawk), Ace (Roger), Murakumogiri (WB), Gryphoon (Shanks), and both Oden Swords iirc.
It's cool because this is an incredibly old theory coming true, because the hilt of the 3 Kitetsus are very similar.

u/Likes-Your-Username Jun 13 '24
Enma is Great Grade, as is Ame no Habakiri. They're both a step down from "supreme grade"
Currently Zoro wields the Great Grade Enma and Wado Ichimonji, and the Grade Sandai Kitetsu, though it only has that low of a ranking because of its deadly curse

The Iron Giant had some importance for lore, showing 1) another potential Void Century member of Joyboy's crew or relation, 2) Show how 200 years ago, the Iron Giant woke up much like now on Egghead, hinting at a previous awakening of the Gomu-Gomu/Nika fruit.
It's actions here also could reflect retrospectively on the story, as in the Giant is saving the Strawhats now, and in a later flashback will show the Iron Giant's inability to help Joyboy, or destroy Marie Geois, in the past.

The chapter being Mo- and the broadcast supposedly ending with Mo-...damn Oda you're really teasing us. It has to continue next chapter right? No way Vegapunk doesn't have a back up. I've been really happy with the reveals so far, but this would be the cherry on top.
I know that some people complain about reaction piece, but I really appreciate seeing everyone again. It really highlights how big the One Piece world is and how Oda is a master at his craft. He really does not forget anyone and has written so many loveable characters that we're excited as a community to just see a picture of the Krieg pirates.
Oda has to be trolling now with how many times Dragon says "..." hahahaa

Native Japanese speaker here. Let me explain mo-re about the "mo".
First of all, it was written in Japanese letter も, pronounced as "mo" in the raw.
も itself doesn't have any meaning in this sentence (it does in other particular sentences, but not this) so it most likely wouldn't translate the same way in English. Some of you might also know about the three writing systems of Japanese (hiragana, katakana, kanji) and this was written in hiragana. If it was in Katakana (モ), the whole word will most likely be an iteration of an English word but in Japanese, for example, モンスター (monster) or モップ (mop) and many, many more. Kanji could also have words like 最も (most) and 木曜日 (Thursday). The one word that makes sense in this sentence in hiragana to me is もう一つ (another [something]), though obviously it could be any other word that both starts with the letter も and fits in this sentence. If this is true, the whole sentence could be something like "inside those with D in their names, there is another soul residing in you" which explains why Blackbeard was able to eat two fruits.
Anyways, English words like "mo-ss-head" or "mo-therfucker", apart from being a joke or not, will not make much sense in this context.

It is so fitting for cricket who spent his life trying to find an ancient city of gold under the sea to react to this

Reading the chapter again, I can't quite tell if it's Zoro or nasujuro saying "a Kitetsu blade?" If Zoro is the one saying it, it's basically confirmed that Nasujuro has the Shodai Kitetsu. If Nasujuro is the one recognizing Sandai Kitetsu, he at the very least is familiar with those swords, which also implies he may have the Shodai.
Either way the clash was cool as hell, hope we get more next chapter.

I’m pretty sure it’s both. I think there are speech arrows pointing at both Zoro and Nasujuro.

Seems that Nusjuro is gonna be one of zoros final opponents seeing as he has the final kitetsu blade. I look forward to seeing zoro with one of the twelve supreme grades!

I feel like at this point, Oda is having fun making a cover story about Yamato leaving the Flower Capital, but I don't think Yamato ever will lol. Blackbeard will show up for Pluton before Yamato leaves for the journey. Nekomamushi hanging with the Yakuza goes kind of hard.

Pretty sure the month breaks Oda took were mostly so he'd remember all the crazy ass characters he used in the story 20 years ago.

Not gonna lie, seeing Jimbe fastball special Zoro is amazing. But the panel with the elders facing down the robot is a special kind of menacing

It’ll be interesting to see how the official translation does it. Will they keep the Mo or will it change to be the start of the English translation?

I fully believe we’ll get the ending of the recording next chapter. This is the inverse of Sabaody — I think it’ll be total defeat for the elders.
Vegapunk no doubt had a back up. The Iron Giant moving was too obvious
