Sick burn from Saturn to Vegapunk considering York’s betrayal.

Meanwhile, Luffy at the vending machine: One Large MacBurger, please.

Not the first time: Back Kaido was hunting down the scabbards and Luffy was feasting on Caribou and Heart Pirates' food.

Gonna eat first before the rebound you know

After all of this, the most important question remains, what the hell happened to Robin!?!?

677

u/Kirosh2 Lookout Jan 25 '24

She got hurt, from the look of it by S-hawk, while she was looking for Vegapunk.

305

u/willys_zuppa Void Month Survivor Jan 25 '24

Yeah I mostly think so too

The only thing for me is that Chopper and Atlas never mentioned that and they also seemingly didn’t get injured themselves. Lastly, it such an obvious answer, why not just reveal it by now? Could be more going on

264

u/Impressive_Site_5344 Jan 25 '24

I almost think that those bandages are what’s going to be important later

A lot of people think Catarina Devon is on her way to the island, I wouldn’t be surprised if she plans to use her fruit to impersonate Robin so the BB pirates can kidnap the real Robin, but she won’t know the real Robin is bandaged up right now and that will be how the crew knows something’s up

55

u/Psych-roxx Jan 25 '24 edited Jan 25 '24

I think it's already happened. This isn't the real Robin otherwise why wouldn't she at least help them in some way like sprout additional eyes or ears to get a better idea of the enemy positions or just anything man. I think the 'injury' is the smokescreen she's using for not having to show that she can't use the powers she is supposed to have.

32

u/Impressive_Site_5344 Jan 25 '24

That’s a good theory, I think she was the only one who wasn’t there during the big double spread with everyone in the room after they handled the seraphims

Nah Robin got injured a while back

Edit: we last see her uninjured in 1078 when her, Atlas, and Chopper are going to check out a previously sealed off room. The next time we see her is bandaged up in 1090 so it seems that whatever happened to her, happened overnight.

He knew too well how technologically advanced the ancient world had been. If he had any inkling of what might have happened to the ancient kingdoms in the past, then what St. Saturn, a top authority of the world, is doing right now just all the more confirms to him what caused the ancient kingdoms to fall and void century to happen.

94

u/Zenith_Tempest Jan 25 '24

it's also just the fact that his life's work was to benefit people. his inventions would have pushed society forward leaps and bounds - but people in power don't like what they can't control. and people who have access to what they need won't rely on you for help, so it all has to be torched

ik it's been made a meme by now but the WG is literally summed up by kizaru's "maintaining the agenda is our top priority"

26

u/BustANupp Thriller Bark Victim's Association Jan 25 '24

That and Saturn's view of "the people don't need innovations anymore" when justifying the destruction of Egghead, essentially spitting in the face of scientists and science itself. It's a field of always pushing to learn, innovate and discover the truths to the world. It shows a good juxtaposition of Saturn and VP as scientists.

Ok so who's coming?Shanks? The last we see of him is him and his crew heading out then confronting Kidd and we know Elbaf is close to Egghead

Straw Hat Fleet? They have Luffy's Vivre Card and The Seige of Egghead started yesterday so they might have known and could arrive in time

The Revolutionary Army? out of the question cz they are in the Grand Line

The BlackBeard Pirates? they were shown to have already arrived yesterday so idk if it could be backup or something, don't think so.

Law? no, he's fucked up

The escaping vessel? The marine says that they failed to neutralize the escaping vessel, so they might have turned around and came back and they have someone strong on board, but I think it's more likely that they were saved by someone and that someone is heading to Egghead

EDIT After 1106: Man I tried to come up with the most likely scenarios and I was still wrong!

120

u/ChipComprehensive703 Jan 25 '24

Only thought as to why it wouldn't be blackbeard is why would he save the esacing vessel and only take down the marine ship?

The buggy pirate allegiance might also be an option

The irony is that the "height of folly" should be attributed to Saturn more than anyone in this case since he brings all these heavy duty forces only to play a staring game with his supposed "top priority" when he's right there in front of him, ripe for killing.

327

u/Hyakkihei1 Jan 25 '24 edited Jan 25 '24

He's a cruel man, he doesn't just want to kill his enemies but make sure first that they are at the peak of despair. Killing Bonney with her father clones shows an amazing amount of sadism.

At this point he feels insulted so most likely wants to make Vegapunk break down before slowly killing him.

Saturn: "You should've kept your Greed in check." I see what you did here you fucking bug. Thinly veiled reference to York [His own Greed] betraying Vegapunk.

826

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '24

It's the Grand Fleet.

In Chapter 800 we're introduced to the Grand Fleet, and the narrator tells us that they will "cause a great incident of historic proportions"

In Egghead, the narrator tells us that there will be an incident that shocks the world.

Considering that the narrator doesn't often go around talking about "this incident" and "that incident", it seems pretty obvious that the Grand Fleet would be on their way.

As to why they've come, because I don't think it makes sense that they came for a rescue mission...

It's quite obvious they all, individually, decided to come and congratulate Luffy on becoming a Yonko. As they noticed that they all had the same idea, they started to race to be the first ones there. The Marine ship got in the way of this race, so they destroyed it.

417

I think you are spot on except for the last bit about them arriving to congratulate luffy.

Morgan wrote about the egg head incident in the paper so the GF knows what is going on.

Now that they are part of a Yonko crew they may feel duty bound to help free the SH from what is being described as a siege in the papers.

Also the GF captains provide solid match ups for all of the vice admirals.

48

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '24

I just don't see how that article can spread and the Fleet could mobilize and arrive in the span of a day. It's just too tight a time frame.

I think whoever is here had to have been on the way before hand, and I think it would be hilariously Oda if the reason was as silly as to congratulate Luffy on being a Yonko.

39

u/Rankine Jan 25 '24

They could have already been on their way to Wano due to the vivre card reflecting that luffy was near death.

The SH also hung around Wano for a week afterward which would give the GF plenty of time to catch up.

Kizaru, please switch sides. I'm begging you, bro, he knows what Saturn is doing is wrong. Just look at his expression in the panels

167

u/TrikKastral Jan 25 '24

It’s over my man. That “Go” panel is some cold resolved shit. I only hope he doesn’t kick the bucket here.

140

u/krazykranz Jan 25 '24

Usually, Kizaru would make quips or something like that, that Go panel is uncharacteristically serious for him.

I don't think he'll switch sides, but he's clearly downtrodden and has surrendered himself to his fate of being a government lapdog.

65

u/TrikKastral Jan 25 '24

Goated of him for sure. The emphasized text, the grayed eyes, the man may finally get serious.

Saturn: "no seriously. Kids, elderly, hero scientists... If you can name it, I'll call it an insect"

Kizaru: "cog in the machine, world ord-"

Kizaru: "yessir, just a cog in the machine"

There's one possibility we're all forgetting:

Elbaf. It should be the next closest island to Egghead. The aftermath of the Ohara incident connects Saul, the revs, Elbaf, and Vegapunk (and the buster call as an event is present in both the ohara incident and the egghead incident). We know Vegapunk called someone for backup recently. Between Saul, the new giant pirates led by Hajrudin, and the former giant pirates led by Dorry and Brogy, the straw hats have plenty of allies from Elbaf, too.

I don't think it's the Blackbeard pirates. They aren't heading for Egghead, they were shown to already be there. It would also be weird for them to save the evacuation vessel from the navy ship, both because they probably don't care for these people and because it would delay them.

When Egghead started, it was said a major incident was about to happen. When the Straw Hat Grand Fleet formed after Dressrosa, it was already noted that they would be responsible for a major incident in the future.

For me, that makes the Grand Fleet the most likely, especially since they probably were already on their way due to the events in Wano, which probably showed Luffy in grave danger on their vivre cards.

It’s funny that the marine cannon fodders surround Luffy even though they know he’s a Yonko. It would seem strange to us if they simply walked up to Kaido Big Mom Whitebeard Blackbeard Shanks in the same ‘cautious’ manner. Reminds me when Lucci say ‘fck it let’s run it back 1v1’. Luffy still not getting the credit he deserves in the OP universe even after joining the club.

67

u/Metal_B Jan 25 '24 edited Jan 25 '24

It also has to be the Strawhat Grand Fleet, simply to show the power of a Yonko.

Luffy and Co. running away again, would be kind of lame for a Yonko. The World Government and Marines openly attacked a Yonko, this should go down hard on them (Rob Lucci was ordered not to attack, because of that reason). The Strawhats should not be a small crew anymore, they are now a powerful force in the world. The Grand Fleet destroying the Marine fleet pretty much legitimize Luffy's role as a Yonko. The Marines and WG can't simply start fights like this anymore with them.

It all comes back, how Rob Lucci wouldn't recognize Luffy as a Yonko. After Luffy defeates a Admiral or/and Elder, stopped a buster call and defeated a Marines Fleet with his fleet. He has to accept Luffy's position.

You don't simply fuck with a Yonko.

I think blackbeard wouldnt give f about rescuing escaping scientists/populace.

Sure we saw earlier hints of some of them being nearby but that doesnt mean this is their doing.

My bet is on grand fleet, which I think is far more likely than revolutionaries. Revolutionaries were still at distant kamabakka just a while ago.

Grand fleet has reason to be there, their captain was made into emperor, why the hell wouldnt they all want to gather to celebrate and check on luffy? I think they have been heading for luffy ever since news about wano and him being made into emperor broke out.

… also I think it would be super super lame and missed opportunity if only time we saw grand fleet gathered and in action at final showdown.

My guess is that it's the grand fleet showing up. When they were first inaugurated in ch. 800, the "voiceover" speech said they'd eventually be part of an "incident of historic proportions". I feel like calling the final war itself an "incident" doesn't really fit, and we know that this will come to be known as the "egghead incident", so it just seems to fit best that they'd show up here, especially with there being a decent amount of time after the world's known about Luffy being there.

Grand Fleet Incoming.

I don't know why people are thinking Dragon (whom we know is in Kamabakka Kingdom, even he if flies he's only by himself.

For Black Beard, its not in his personality to jump in this situation (and save a bunch of scientists ?? no lol). Ok he kind of jumped in at Marineford lol but it was for a clear purpose, and my take is that he already sneaked out something (I maintain a command chip for the Seraphins) the previous night and he's already gone (and that was Lafite and Devon).

Shanks could be a possibility, but narration wise, it has to be the Grand Fleet to establish Luffy as an undisputed emperor.

That ship looks like split in half. My bet is that's the Cross Guild arriving. What better place is there to hunt marines than an island marked for a Buster Call. The only BB pirates missing in the last events are Devon and Laffite, they're suited for infiltration and backstabbing, not for flashy entrances

Choices for who is going to show up (could be multiple):

1) Blackbeard pirates - already saw their ship, might be more coming even. To steal devil fruit or technology / Vegapunk (or maybe York). It's kind of implied the scientists were saved though which isn't really a BB crew move and they just captured Garp and fight Law.

2) The Revolutionary army - To save Kuma, Vegapunk, and deal blow to world govt. Would need some ability to move quickly though (Dragon's wind/storm power?).

3) Grand Fleet - To save/help Luffy if they saw the egghead news plus they have a vivre card

4) Red Hair Pirates - they are nearby and could get another poneglyph from Luffy 's crew, seems a bit less likely though.

5) Cross Guild - kind of the same reason, to get poneglyph, seems less likely

6) Vivi's group - I think they are coming to meet up with Luffy and see the news although I am not expecting them to be the ones who destroyed the ship in that last panel.

I can't really think of any other great options right now. Crazy one that would be kind of annoying would be Big Mom to get revenge....

When discussing end game opponents in the fandom over the years, specifically the Admirals - Sanji was often matched up against Kizaru due to his speed, and Kizaru's tendency to rely on kicks in his fighting style. There's a strong chance we get our wish in these next few chapters, and I'm so here for it!

Regarding the unseen assailant(s) - The BlackBeard Pirates have been present at Egghead since Ch. 1079. I was confident they would get involved before anyone else, but they also have very little incentive to save a bunch of researchers. This certainly appears to be a separate group, but clearly a recognizable one. I think the Revolutionaries are way too far away to have gotten there that fast, my guesses are:

  • SH Grand Fleet - it's not enough for someone strong to show up, they need to have enough numbers to occupy a fleet of Navy Warships all firing on one target. This, on top of Luffy's presence at Egghead being in the paper makes me think they would make an attempt to save their captain.
  • Germa & Caesar - With Caesar linking up with Judge again, Oda gave us a cover story that dives into MADS history. Vegapunk himself is the only person in the group who we haven't heard speak of his time with them or at least reference it. Stussy's reveal as a clone makes me feel like there's MUCH more to that story that we got on the cover pages.
  • Shanks - There really can't be much more that Shanks needs to see Luffy do before he feels he's ready to meet, though I was much more willing to put my money on them meeting at Elbaf. We have no idea how much Shanks knows about Vegapunk, and his relation to anything Celestial Dragon related comes the meeting we saw him have with the Gorosei. What they talked about could finally be referenced if he runs into Saturn here.

It's the Strawhat Grand Fleet. After Luffy almost got killed on Wano, they properly moved into the direction, where Luffy was going. Thanks to Vive Card and just now catched up. Probably attacked the Navi Ship, since they know about the siege through the news.

This will be the incident, where they going to destroy this Navi Fleet and probably be part of the death or defeated of an Admiral and a Elder. Pretty much the biggest defeat of the Navi and WG in known history.
