As a reminder, this chapter is officially the first of 2024, and was supposed to be released next week, but like usual, it leaks very early around that time.

Chapter 1104 will only be released the third week of January.

Underrated page is when Bonney revert back to being a kid again, her real age, and hugging Vegapunk. Without a parental figure no less, she had been force to mature ever since she braved the sea to find her father.

And now , probably for the first time in ages , she finally dropped the bravado. In that brief moment with Vegapunk, with family , she gets to be 12 again.

339

u/SwordMaster21 Dec 27 '23

It felt like a classic One Piece panel.. no busy background, all focus on the characters either doing or saying something.

For a second there. I thought Vegapunk was that tall until I realized she converted back to being a child. Vegapunk and Kizaru has been her Uncles these past few years.

It had to be Kizaru

506

u/Subaneki Dec 27 '23

They panel over to him too after they ask who did it, and he’s just whistling metaphorically over there.

83

u/hiddenpoint Dec 28 '23

His previous panel in chapter shows him assed out on the ground like Luffy, thinking about Sentomaru and Bonney, then he's propped up after Luffy is spontaneously fed looking inconspicuous. Dude definitely did it. I can't wait to see how this plays out.

Saturn is worrying about Bonney making the connection with Nika and Luffys DF but Kizaru already made the connections and it's him who he should be worried about

Luffy punched his head in so hard he swapped sides

319

u/Jwruth Dec 28 '23

Saturn just delivered a whole ass villain speech about how he's behind all of the evil shit anyone in that room has ever experienced, so of course Mr. "unclear justice" found a bit of clarity.

This has kind of been hinted at for a long time. Even back in Thriller Bark, there was that moment when Cindry's corpse stopped obeying orders and then smiled that beautiful smile at Chopper. And now in Egghead, S-Snake somehow inherited Boa's simping. I'm really interested to see where this goes.

271

u/WhimsicalGrin Dec 27 '23

You could also add Saturn's comments a few chapters back about humans always doing what they aren't allowed to do, i.e. Kuma going against his programming, as another hint. Same goes for the shark at the start of Egghead, and Vegapunk on two separate occassions commenting on instincts overriding programming.

It's so simple yet they evoke so many emotions and hype that only One Piece has managed to give me. The RAW ANGER of the supposedly "lifeless" Cyborg Kuma.

Wait random thought:

Did Kizaru give Luffy the food?

One panel he's laying down and the next we see him he's sitting up.

429

u/frizzykid Dec 27 '23

Also a second before, we see him acknowledging Bonnie's situation, and sentomarus. Could be him turning. We saw some really touching moments between all of them during the flash back.

124

u/Work_the_shaft Dec 27 '23

And the moment after Saturn asking who gave him food it shows Kizaru with a ‘…’ speech bubble

94

u/Unabashable Dec 27 '23

I look it at it more as how Garp "helped" Luffy. He can't be seen (keyword there) helping the enemy as that's downright treason, but if he can feed them in the blink of an eye while still looking like he's "just chillin", it's like he was barely even there.

It's possible Kuma put something of himself inside the necklace with the Paw-Paw fruit, which caused his body to react when Bonnie's life was in danger. That, or there's a secret order in there that activates only when Bonnie takes possession of it.

Also, whoever gave Luffy food has to be either Caribou or Kizaru. The first has to be scared shitless and Luffy surviving is his only hope to leave unscathed. The other had a change of heart after hearing what Saturn did and possibly know who Nika is thanks to Kuma, meaning he understood that Luffy's new form is related to it.

I hope it's Borsalino, if it's him, he may become my favorite Admiral.

So Bonney’s Limitless Future powerset is based on how open she perceives her future to be. The more traumatized and downtrodden she is the weaker the fruit the more healthy and optimistic her outlook the more powerful she is.

Her fruit is weaponized childlike wonder. Saturn is trying to squash it while Kuma is trying to preserve it at all cost.

303

u/often_never_wrong Dec 27 '23

The fact that he speaks this way seems to confirm Saturn is NOT the one who took Ginny as a wife. Why would he speak of himself in such a roundabout way?

I think the person who took Ginny is either Imu, or just some rando celestial dragon who is unimportant and will never really be featured in the story.

123

Feels like it has to be non-Imu, though. Probably non-Gorosei. 8 total wives for folks presumably 800+ years old is a low amount.

This seems to be a big question Egghead is asking - "is it worth living in an awful world?"

251

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '23

The indominatabe human will is also a theme.

As someone pointed out above, in Thriller Bark we saw Cindry's true self reasserting itself, the replacements for the Shichibukai are self actualizing and taking on traits of whom they are based on and we are witnessing that Kuma was never completely gone.

Despite all the sufferring inflicted on him, Kuma's love for his daughter fuels his indomitable will to keep coming back no matter how much shit gets thrown his way.

An Inherited Strength Of Will. One’s Dreams. The Ebb and Flow of the Ages.

As Long As People Hunger For Freedom. These Things Will Exist.”

  • Gold Roger

That quote really hones in on the core themes of the series, which we move closer and closer too. And all of the stuff you mentioned lines up. Damn Oda is good

I want to clarify something in the translation. TCB is a bit misleading on the "8th wife line".

TCB:

Your mother being brought to the holy land to be wife number 8 is ironic really. She ended up being part of my drugs experiments.

The actual line is :

後に聖地の者の第8夫人となったお前の母に薬物実験をしたのも私だ

Most literal translation I could come up with:

After that I made drug experiments on your mom who became the 8th wife of a person from the holy land.

聖地の者の第8夫人 is the phrasing Saturn uses. 聖地 meaning holy land, の meaning of and 者 meaning a person so literally "a person of the holy land". this connected to another の and 第8夫人 (8th wife) makes it "the 8th wife of a person of the holy land". The TCB line completely ignored that 者 making it like Saturn is the one marrying Giny. Also, I have no idea where this "it's ironic really" line came from, I don't see anything in the actual japanese line that means Saturn finds it ironic or funny.

That pendant, a circle with eight smaller circles secretly means they are or were followers of Nika. We see it on the ancient Fishman city, alabasta flag, kozuki crest, skypeia and then when Enel went to the moon that sun logo was on a wall with it above pluton, Uranus and Neptune.

Kizaru I think is the one who gave Luffy food. Everyone was saying they weren’t able to move and kizaru is the only one fast enough to move without people noticing him. Right after Luffy was eating kizaru swapped positions too

Saturn scare shitless of the possibility of Luffy coming back to the fight.

I think his powers dont work on people who have conquerous haki (thats why Oda took Zoro out of the scene).

But not only that, I think the drums of liberation are able to negate his ability.

The running scene of Kuma in this chapter plays perfectly off of the running panel from last chapter. In great cinematic fashion, he has finally completed his sprint and is exactly where he was meant to be at exactly the right time, the only gift this beautiful soul would have ever asked for. This is peak right here folks!

Anyone remember when Lillith couldn't fully control one of the sea beasts from pursuing its basic desire to try and eat the Sunny?

Or how S-Snake completely ignored York's command because she's part Hancock and Hancock would literally drop everything for Luffy?

Yeah even the highest authority in that hierarchy can't block what's truly desired. If Kuma was willing to leave his home, become a pirate by accepting the news propoganda, accept the Warlord title and lose his humanity all for his daughter, you bet he'll ignore even Saturn's command for her sake.

The entire Kuma flashback has been absolutely fantastic! It's been a while since One Piece has consistently made me tear up but here we are...week after week the more we learn, the more tragic Kuma becomes.

I can't wait for the next chapter. Hopefully, Saturn gets sent flying but I doubt it'll be that easy.

Its definitely Kizaru who gave Luffy the food. Hes the only person fast enough and with motivation to do so. Oda's built him up to have a huge connection with everyone involved here, and he knows Luffy is the only one with a real chance of being able to save everyone.

What a real one though, defying a Gorosei like that takes some massive balls and real dedication to what you think is right. I wonder if this means Kizaru is going to fully break with the government over this; Kizaru abandoning the government to keep Vegapunk safe wouldn't be unbelievable, and they'd almost assuredly join the Grand Fleet at that point. Having a former Admiral on board wasnt on my radar after Kuzan joined Blackbeard, but it'd fit in to the dynamic Oda has set up between Lufty and Blackbeard.

I am dumping all of my investments into Kizaru stocks, dude was TROUBLED and I'm gonna bet if he wasn't laid out by luffy he would have made a move to stop Bonney's execution. Heck, still might in a second here after seeing that no amount of programming or brain frying could EVER take away a father's love.

Imagine you're Saturn and you assume "Oh I'll take out the Nika now while he's weak" and then two hours later you're getting jumped JJK style by the Nika, the Nika's Strongest Prophet, and the guy you gave the Light Logia to.

Everyone is talking about the punch, but how about the explanation of Bonneys power. Will probably be different in official release, but that lack of imagination and certainty of future causes her powers to not be as crazy. Hope and imagination vs hopelessness and feeling like you’re doomed. It’s a great theme for a power even tho it’s fucked up how she got it.

This chapter reminded me of full metal alchemist a bit with Bonney being injected with the essence of the devil fruit in the same way that King Bradley was injected with the philosopher’s stone, also Saturn’s quote about considering the life of a bug before you crush it (I think Father said that too)

I suspected it, but pretty much confirms (unless this TCB translation is way off) that Saturn was Ginny’s rapist. Ugh.

Who is feeding luffy? Is Kizaru about to defect?

37

u/CassidyFreeman Dec 28 '23

This chapter hit all the notes, oh myyyy.

  • I think Kizaru brought the food to Luffy. He'd be the only one I can think of fast and powerful enough to move around unnoticed. He said earlier he couldn't move after Luffy hit him, but he probably exaggerated a bit so he could chill and lay on his back for a while. After he sees the desperate situation Sentomaru and Bonney are in (he was, after all, never ordered to take them out and still cares for all of them clearly), he's suspiciously seen sitting after the food mysteriously appears for Luffy.

  • Did Kuma's memories actually restore after Bonney gained access to them? He's using Haki in the final panel, so I don't think he's full cyborg working off of some hidden orders. And I doubt it's Vegapunk programming since he was very surprised at his arrival. The Revolutionaries also don't know what he's doing/where he's going, so that leaves him acting out of his own free will, somehow.

  • I thought for a second Kuma's body would get pierced like a certain other somebody... but it appears his cyborg body was strong enough afterall. I wonder if whatever ability Saturn is using to stunlock the others doesn't work because he has too many body mods? But then again, Franky can't move either...

  • I hope Kuma gets in an epic punch reminiscent of Luffy punching a Celestial Dragon, he sure deserves it after we've seen what his life was like... aaand I hope he gets to witness Luffy go G5 so he can make the connection and get confirmation he bet on the right horse

This is one of the rare arc where the main villain should and can be defeated by someone other than Luffy.
