discussion What band did you think were amazing as a teen, only to grow up and realise they kinda suck?

Sometimes as teens, we latch onto a band or sound and think the lyrics ect, are deep and masterful, only to hit adulthood and realise it was just edgy and the lyrics are cringe as hell or just plain bad, or the overall sound was just not that great. Or any other reason your mind changed.

For me, I used to love placebo, but now as an adult I don't enjoy them at all. No hate to them as people, my music tastes just changed.

discussion Why isn’t Spoon bigger?

Upvotes

I’ll never understand why Spoon never exploded like say, Kings of Leon, selling out huge venues and headlining major festivals. They’re great, always have and always will be. Maybe I should be grateful that they never got huge so I can continue going to shows in the smaller venues that I like.

discussion WARNING: Suspicious links STILL being posted to this subreddit. Automod filter STILL broken.

Do not visit links from:

globalbenefit.co.uk

insidenewshub.com

metropost.us

And generally be careful around what links you click on this subreddit.

Posts from these three sites have consistently made the top of this subreddit recently.

If you throw any of the domains into Google with quotes ("metropost.us", for example), you won't find a single source legitimizing any of these sites.

Mods claim to have added the first two of these sites to the Automod filter when I pointed this out about a week ago. They also removed that post for pointing out the literally only users posting from those sites. Since that time, over a dozen posts have been made from those sites, with many of them reaching the top of this subreddit (and others being deleted by the poster after their link got called out for being sketchy)

I have reported every one of them. Mods have been inconsistent in removing them, with the ones they have removed staying on the front page for hours. The current #1 post on this subreddit is from one of those sites.

This is inexcusable on a subreddit with 32 mods with "manage posts" permissions and an Automod with a site blocking filter.

Mods, please either ban the literally only people posting links from these websites, or fix Automod to actually block the websites

Original post where I pointed this out, and mods added these sites to automod then deleted the post

Posts from globalbenefit.co.uk since then:

1: 8.5k upvotes at time of posting, currently #1 post on the subreddit

2: 1.4k upvotes, deleted by OP after staying on front page for over 12 hours

Posts from insidenewshub.com since then:

1: 7.6k upvotes, was on the front page most of yesterday, appears to have been silently removed by mods

2: 5.1k upvotes, removed by mods after staying on front page for over 12 hours

3: 63 upvotes, deleted by OP

I don't know what the goal is of these sites, but I grew up in an era where you if you wanted to protect your computer, you were careful about what links you clicked. I highly advise not visiting any of these sites and being cautious around any articles from unfamiliar links posted here.

Best case it's junk journalism trying to get some ad dollars. Middle case it's some kind of propaganda play. Worst case these sites are maliciously tracking users and/or installing malware.

discussion Bradley Nowell-Sublime

For some reason, I don't see a lot of people talking about Bradley Nowell often. He has the most amazing voice and is one of the only artists I can listen to on repeat without getting tired of it. Plus, his son Jakob Nowell is so talented too!!

Rest In Peace Bradley, although you didn't get the long and peaceful life you deserved, you were absolutely amazing and one of a kind :) 1968-1996

discussion Buddy Holly

I just felt compelled to say that I believe Buddy Holly is the greatest loss/tragedy to Rock'n'Roll, and Popular Music in general, that there has ever been. All we know or have heard was all accomplished by the age of 22.

discussion I skipped every song on the new Coldplay album.

I think they should call themselves something else. And they should also be sued for ripping off Daft Punk on Aeterna (that song name alone should illicit groans). I’ve been with them since Parachutes. I think Ghost Stories was their last great record. And even on that they don’t “sound like themselves”. I wish I can quit them. I keep waiting for them to wise up. Sound like a band again, not a ProTools session. And when did they get so obsessed with playing some orchestral sound before every song. Does every song need a four on the floor beat, too? They also feel the need to clutter up the stereo field with garbage noises in either channels. Somebody remind them it’s cool if it’s just a guitar and a vocal. There’s no further they can get away from who they were. It’s almost as if this was the AI version of the band. But this is no band. This is Coldplay. (groan)

discussion Who were the guitarists who could sing lead and play lead at the same time?

It's supposed to be very difficult to play guitar and sing at the same time, which is why most times when a singer is playing guitar they play rhythm, and often only when they aren't actually singing. But there must be a few who could do it. Maybe Clapton? Stevie Ray? I'm just really interested in hearing some examples.
